If you have an amp that supports DTS 6.1 discrete, can you use a DVD player that doesn't decode it - f.i. one that can only decode normal DTS 5.1 ?

As long as you use your digital outs (optical or co-axial) and feed the digital source straight into your 6.1 Receiver - you will get 6.1. Even with a 5.1 DVD player.

In fact I'm not sure if there are many 6.1 DVD players around just yet ?

Obviously if you used the 5.1 analogues from your DVD player, the receiver wouldn't be able to 'upgrade' the signal.
