I have recently purchased a Yamaha DSP-AX750 and when I watch films/Sky or listen to music through it I generally just use the "Straight" programme rather than all the fancy surround programmes.

If you are unfamiliar with this, it just plays whatever it is fed, for example if the DVD player sends out a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal it uses that decoder.

Am I wasting the potential of the amp or will this be a more "pure" signal? Or is it just down to personal preference?

On my Z9 i only use straight when i am listening to DVD-A or SACD & when listening to DD or DTS i have it on Standard as that is for normal listening of them formats.
