While I was browsing this section last week, I came across a thread mentioning this album. I never even knew such mixes existed. There was chat about free downloads etc but this was years ago.
Google throws up nothing but chat about it so does anyone know where I could purchase said album?

I believe it was released on SACD and BRD. Which would be the best format to seek out?

    Cheers

Do you have a SACD player?
The Playstation 3 played SACD but I could not see a mention of SACD playback for the Playstation 4.
I was a bit shocked to see how few of the SACD discs are available.
If I had suitable equipment I would grab the SACD while still available. In fact I would get a universal player just to be able to play it.
The 5.1 mix is so good and the sound quality is so good that it would be surprising to see it become unavailable in some format or other but then again Wish You Were Here is pretty well unavailable in any format that I know off.
The Immersion set included a 5.1 Blu-ray disc but I did not see a stand alone Blu-ray 5.1 mix available, surely it must become available at some time.

    Thanks @Stacis.
No, I don`t have a SACD player but had a feeling my Ps4 might have played it.
Yes, they are missing a trick not releasing a stand-alone and am sure would be a huge seller.

Warrior on the edge of time would be awesome in that format too (since you`re a Hawkwind fan :))

I have both the SACD (James Guthrie-mixed 5.1 version), and the never-commercially-released Alan Parsons 4.1 mix on DVD-A. I really do like both versions, and have been unable to decide if I prefer one version over the other. I've always had a player that could cope with both formats, so choosing which format was never thankfully an issue.

As mentioned above, the DVD-A version is not (and has never been) commercially available. I obtained my copy by making a charity donation (i.e. not purchased). You might find that forum member MarkE19 could point you in the right direction, if you're interested in this format. Apart from the hi-res MLP 4.1 tracks (playable only on a DVD-A player), the option of Dolby Digital and dts are also offered, so this album can be played on any DVD player that is able to decode such formats.

    Hope this helps.

The 4.1 any day. The SACD sounds too bright by comparison. Thought it was just me, but tried it on a few systems, same result. The 4.1 was done by an actual engineer, but the whole thing was very shady. The 4.1 of WYWH sounds better than the SACD too. Tbh the Immersion Blu ray versions of the Quad mix are the best of all. However, that is but my opinion.

Didn't EMI release the Parsons DSOM as a quad 8Track, without the bands' approval? Wasn't this the cardboard cutouts situation ?

Thanks. I wasn't aware that there was a multi-channel version of WYWH other than the SACD, but I find that interesting, so thanks for the heads-up. What format was it released on - and how does one get hold of it?

They did, though if I remember correctly the cardboard cutouts was to do with the press release showing of DsotM using the sh*tty public address system at the London Planetarium. As for the SACD and Blu-ray I don't think I have a preference. James Guthrie did the SACD mix and he's worked with Floyd before and is a perfectly competant engineer/producer. Not sure who mastered the blu-ray version (just did a check and it's James Guthrie again - not sure if it's just a version of his SACD mix).
Now if only there were 5.1 mixes of Animals and The Wall. Don't really understand why not to be honest.
Blu-ray. One of the Immersion box sets (Wish You Were Here). Not cheap to get as they're not made anymore. Maybe £200 on ebay?

The Wall would be great in the 5.1. I have the dvd if the film. Also have the dvd a of the unofficial DSOTM mix as well as the sacd. Agree they're both good.

There's not even a blu-ray release of the movie. That would be something.
