Fairly basic question - I'm running dvd from my player (Sony HCD S300 from the DAV home theatre pack, into my PC via SVideo on a Wintv card, using DScaler as, well, as scaler, then outputting to my CRT pj (Electrohome ECP3100).

Compared to the bog standard composite input from the player to the pj, and also compared to the image my pc monitor is displaying, the throughput from DScaler to the pj is very muted (dark and poor colours.) Could it be my VGA - RGBHV cable?

Any ideas? I'm open to suggestions on the best resolution and rate to run the pj at, and also the best settings in terms of contrast, brightness and colour in DScaler.

OR would I be better off ditching the external player and using something like Theatertek to run the DVD from an internal drive?

Have you done any calibration of Dscaler?

No. Is that the procedure involving the test patterns? If so, I don't possess any of the standard patterns on disc. Presumably I need to track one down.

Have you calibrated the RGBHV input on the projector.
