Hmm it's like minimum effort "pro paddle" functions
The standard is moving towards 4 extra buttons, and some allow dual-mapping, eg: triangle+circle mapped as a single button press.

I hope the PS5 controller has this (well with 4 buttons) built into the unit directly.

... oh and yes, i'll still be buying one ;)

Yeah so this means my controller now won’t fit in the official Sony charging dock, yeah great design there Sony I’m not taking this on or off each and every time I play or stop playing a game.

Hopefully this will be built into the design of the next controller, preferably with just the two paddles, current dual shocks aren’t big enough for four paddles and still be super ergonomic and the base dualshock 5 is unlikely to have removable paddles.

If the base model DS5 has two extra buttons by default then devs could actually program these buttons for new gameplay actions, we wouldn’t be limited to simple copying of existing key functions. You’d still have the option of mapping the paddles to existing presses as devs would need to create a layout for the new Series X controller which doesn’t have any more gameplay buttons.

Not really any new info, just some impressions, but hey ho:

Picked up one of these to try out what it is like to have the back paddles without forking on a Scuf or pro controller.

It’s not bad. It does add a bit of bulk to the controller, but not too much extra weight. The buttons are pretty hair trigger, so only need a little flick of your ring finger to hit. Set up is simple, not sure what the drain on battery life might be yet.

I’ve only had a short go on Titanfall 2 and kept forgetting to use the buttons for what I had set them to, but I guess in time I will get my brain trained to use them more as I play.

The only negative for me at the moment is hitting the buttons when picking up the controller from around the back. But definitely a fairly cheap way to see if you can make use of the extra buttons without splashing out a lot more cash.
