So just the other day I discovered my newest favourite song to play drums to: "Are You Dead Yet?" by Children of Bodom. Now this song probably isn't everybody's cup of tea but while I'm not a huge fan of theirs, this is the sort of thing I do enjoy listening to. But what really got my interest levels peaked was the volume of kick pedal action.

Instead of just tapping away every now and then (FYI, I play on Hard level), there were bits of this that had lots of constant kick pedal, and listening to the song you can hear the double kicks that I'm not even being asked to play yet. Getting past the intro is the tricky bit - after that it's an easy song to play on Hard, but immensely satisfying to play. It just felt so awesome to play along to.

The other two songs I'd list are Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way" which is simply superb fun, and, of course, Metallica's "Enter Sandman".

What tracks do you particularly enjoy playing? Not just because you're a massive Oasis fan or whatever ;) but simply because the tracks themselves are hugely rewarding to play that even a non-fan would appreciate?

I can't get enough of the Boston stuff.
Yes, rockband has introduced me to soft American rock & I don't mind admitting it!
Foreplay/Longtime is still my favourite & having played it so many times I can 5 star it on expert on the freestyle(?), no notes mode.
The Boston album on DLC is a joy to play to on all the instruments IMO.

Carry On Wayward Son is just pure sex on Expert drums

Other favourites include Ten Speed (Of God's Blood And Burial), Welcome Home, ...And Justice For All, Tom Sawyer (Original Version), Alive, Any Way You Want It and Jukebox Hero.

EDIT: as Mr. Evilest said, the Boston stuff is the tits, More Than A Feeling another favourite of mine

    I've always like everlong

Played it on GH:WT before I got rockband 2 but on Expert (Using RB drums) the pads are the wrong way round so I have to play the off note left handed - something I can't co-ordinate but it is much better on RB2

I suppose this is alot down to music taste really.

I do love playing through Foo Fighters - Learn to Fly.

Well, I was trying to avoid a simple "I really like the band, so I'll pick their songs" type reason. I was exploring more the feeling you get from the mere playing of the song. I can be found moving my whole upper body and head when I'm playing to Fleetwood Mac, and my arms are flying around the kit and I'm really pounding on it when I'm playing Children of Bodom. While I'm not their biggest fan I am partial to that style of music. However, these are stand-out tracks that I find immensely involving to play.

    ...

    Wow.

Any of those no notes efforts simply has to be applauded, but 5* on Expert at the same time?

    Damn.

I really need to start playing on Expert rather than this nancy Hard difficulty!

Yes, QFT, +1, and all that.

Not particularly a big fan of the who but Won't get Fooled Again on hard is my favourite song to play by a long way, fantastic beat and a real joy to play, coming close to 5*ing it as i practically know it off by heart now :smashin:

And Enter Sandmam on Expert, definitely not a fan of metallica as i can't stand heavy stuff, i like Nothing Else Matters and that is it, but this has a brilliant chart (although it is very easy for its positioning in the game, can 5* it with ease).

fun songs to play on drums! cool where do i start,

more than a feeling and foreplay/longtime are great fun. most of the AC/DC stuff is awesome to play as is anything by the foos, most of the nirvana stuff (except polly of course) go your own way (which I only really played for the first time last week for the tourney)

Im going out on a limb and saying the fratellis stuff (not that ive played it yet) that free headphones on song is great fun and I stand alone and typical from the other week. dont really like those songs but drums are fun.

Damn, I want to go home and play these songs now!

That's what I'm talking about! Stepping outside of your normal musical preferences to find a song that's just damn good fun to play on drums. I think the drumming on most of the Who songs is just ... different ... for lack of a better word. A lot of songs are really basic and no problem to play, but I certainly have to concentrate more when playing those Who songs I have.

I also really like playing to the Bob Dylan & Blondie tracks, which normally I wouldn't listen to out of choice.
By contrast, I really like the Who stuff but drumming to it is a bit of a nightmare with also those 'off' bass beats & manic-moon-fills.

I agree. I liked the simple but effective Back In Black by AC/DC which I scored 100% on expert on the other day. Also love 'Headphones On' even though I'm concerned about enjoying a 'pop rock' track when I'm devoted to Stoner/Doom/Fuzz rock.
Having DL'd the Stone Temple Pilots tracks, they're firm favourites, as is Testament's 'Electric Crown' which takes me back! That song's quite a challenge because the speed of it is just on the verge of tiring me out each time even though it's easy to get the hang of.

One day I'll get around to playing the latest Guitar Hero/Rock Band games on guitar, until then I'm happy drumming away ^__^

Yep Sick, Sick, Sick is brilliant, only done it on hard and it requires a LOT of concentration as it switches between double basses and off beats every other note.

Enter sandman from RB1 is sorely missed i must say.

Deluxe on expert drums has a hypnotic drum chart with lots of bass and rythmic rolls that arent too fast, its the RB2 version of Maps (another great drum track).

Snow (RHCP), murderous on guitar but superb on drums.

Funk 49 (James Gang) & Hymn 43 (jethro tull), two of the best drum charts, lots of varied charting and not too fast, you'll be sweeping up and down the drum kit with these.

Nearly lost you (screaming trees), actually quite similar, but better than, the dinosaur Jr track on RB2.

Finally i have to mention Toxicity and chop suey, i really get pumped up playing these tracks. They just have such intensity.

I also agree with all the tracks mentioned so far but these are the ones i come back to time and again (although not so much i've memorised the pattern and can play on performance mode - wow Dr Evilest you are a legend:thumbsup:)

Ooo, interesting. I have both of those. I must try them out then. I have yet to play the Tull number on any instrument.

I quite enjoy Go Your Own Way and Everlong. For sheer fun factor Mississippi Queen on the original was fun on Expert too. Enter Sandman goes without saying as a great drummers track :smashin:.

Airboure - Runnin Wild on expert is pure fun once you get the rhythm, Go Your Own Way is annoying at first but once it "clicks" its awesome, Carry On Wayward Son is another go to track.

More Then a Feeling - Awesome song for the drums.

Foreplay\ long time and Enter Sandman

    Avenged 7 Fold - AfterLife

    My two current faves...

Rush: The Trees - a varied and brill drumming track

Disturbed: Down with the Sickness - great song and good fun but hard on the ankle with all the pedal action!

There are some songs I have to play every time I boot up Rock Band.

    Those are:
    Learn to Fly
    Dani California
    More than a Feeling.

I can even 4 star Dani California in performance mode (ie no note chart) I've played it so much.

playing on performance mode is impressive. dont think id be able to do that. I tried it once on self esteem and failed miserably. i know the chart but cant seem to get the timing right if the chart isnt there. that and the fact that i spend too much time watching the animations

Had a christmas day session with mates, a variety of skill levels, and a great party game. Quite enjoyed playing Dani California, but our bassist kept failing on Medium...

It's always interesting paying songs which you wouldn't normally pick, but due to accommodating everyone's tastes, but thought i'd just mention the fun of drumming still lives on - Merry Holidays my fellow Rock Banders!
