First screens of the Wii version.
Direct PS2 port with tacked-on controls? Give me some original games, for gods sake.
I dont own a PS2, bring them on. Cant complain against a bit of choice.
As long as it's better than Driver 3...
When is this out on Wii then?
Nice screenshots.. I don't suppose there are any ingame actual gameplay screenshots out there though are there?
FMV stills don't tell you much about games..
They tell you one thing, "Some of the story is progressed through the use of pre-rendered cut scenes"
But other than that, they don't tell you anything else.
Indeed, ports or not, the more releases on the Wii the better.
Always nice to have choice & you never know, some of these ports could prove better on the Wii than they were on the PS2 etc. not just due to Wii controls but developers hearing peoples gripes with the original release. Of course that doesn't mean to say it will be better, depends if the developers are lazy or want to make it a better version.
The screens do look great, but as said, don't give much away about how the in game graphics will look.
They are obvious high res shots but there is now way thats FMV. Far too low poly.
IGN have some proper screens up now, they look alot more ropey to me than the ones we were presented with earlier
I'm sure the Wii is capable of much better graphics than this, another case of simple PS2 port I guess.
I'm thinking about buying this game but can't find any reviews, as anybody played it, can anyone recommend it or should i stay well clear ? Thanks
Well it wasn't that good on the other consoles and I doubt the Wii version adds anything to it.
Plus the fact that it has sneaked onto the shelves without any reviews being out suggests it will be a pile of poo. A shame really, the first 2 Driver games were excellent.
I was wondering about the lack of reviews too. So I guess its the equivalent of when the media don't get invited to movie screenings before the launch so no negative reaction can do it further harm. Damage Control.
As much as I enjoy Excite Truck a good racer would be very welcome. I still pop in Burnout 2 for the cube and see if I haven't lost the ability to perfect those power slides.
Ive decided to stay well clear. (for the moment at least.)
My nephew bought this and I had a quick (15min) go.
I must say it's quite good
Great Funky 80's music, OK car controls and overall a good laugh.
People will compare it to GTA and, while it hasn't got the depth of play or story, who played GTA to complete all the missions anyway?
I personally used to play just enough to unlock most of the map, and then spend my time randomly carjacking and running people over/doing stunts/avoiding the police.
Yes, that may upset some people, but most people I know didn't play GTA "seriously" and simply booted it up for a laugh (and to listen to cheesy disco a la "vice city" ).
If you're one of those people, I'd say this is a game for you. I'm certainly tempted to get it myself now
IGN reviewed Driver a couple of days ago, they weren't too keen either commenting that it was overshadowed by both Scarface & The Godfather in terms of looks & gameplay mechanics. Apparently the actual driving controls using the nunchuk comes across as broken and difficult to handle, not good for what is essentially a driving game.
They awarded it a rather disappointing 5.9/10
I have just read the IGN review which did give the game a score of 5.9 but i also noticed the readers average review is 8.2, should we really take any notice of these reviews as they can be so different depending on which gaming website you choose to visit. I sometimes think it's a case of paying your money and hoping for the best.
I agree with ahneililator and tend to put more stock into reader reviews than paid journalist reviews.
It also depends on which control system you use. Either:
Analogue to steer, Z to accelerate, C to brake
Analogue to steer, Z to accelerate, swing nunchuk up to brake.
The first method using the buttons to brake is actually not too bad (not brilliant by any means, but not too bad either). The second method using the "jerk 'chuck up to brake" makes the game virtually unplayable imo.
As long as you stick with the button method, it's actually quite reasonable once you get used to it .
