Not the worst solution available, but I suspect many will find cheaper solutions by themselves with the benefit of having the neutral white temperature options.

Personally, we absolutely love our Philips 55" (3 sided) Ambilight - while it may not be technically the most high-spec panel and highest-performing, the bias lighting looks superb and is always very well received by our guests - no exceptions!

Added benefit of not needing lamps on elsewhere and I am happy - thoroughly recommend bias lighting to anyone.

the cable port placement on the hub looks awful - imagine trying to place the hub somewhere with cables connected, though I personally would use the second hdmi output from a pro/AVR.

I used the RPI lightberry system previously based on hyperion and it worked very well - perhaps not so straightforward to setup for a noob compared to this however. The dreamscreen looks rather limited for specific adjustment of the leds in comparison (RGB whitelevel, gamma, blacklevel, threshold settings etc). For example one of the images in the review show purple lights around the yellow on screen colour.

Interested in this kind of system - I am waiting for a proper 4k version though, I know they are working on one, I don't know of anyone else having a 4k one yet

They are working on a 4K model that will support HDR and HDCP 2.2 but it hasn't been released yet. I believe the reason for DreamScreen's current Kickstarter campaign is to fund production of the 4K version.

Thanks, I did see the Kickstarter version in the works, just wondered if any "rivals" had a 4K version out already

I do like a little bit of bias lighting behind my tv , not sure I could get on with the colour changing all the time though, think i would find that more distracting than immersive.

It's like anything after a while - you notice when it isn't changing colour ;)

I recently replaced my 1080p Philips Aurea TV with an LG OLED and I really miss the ambilight system. I am watching the various ambilight clones market avidly and will definitely be looking for the best 4K capable one when there are a few about to contrast and compare. That screenshot in the review looks dreadful. Purple lighting at the back when there is a yellow image on screen (bottom right). W.T.F?!

Maybe I am. But not as simple as someone who spends £160 to decorate their TV with flashing lights.

It's not about decoration. It's about increasing the sense of immersion and adding bias lighting into the bargain. I can definitely feel an increase in eye strain from switching from my full ambilight TV to a TV with no ambilight. The ambiance and relaxation effect it adds to your room cannot be underestimated either. My wife is constantly asking me when we are going to get an ambilight solution for our new TV. To be honest, if Philips had just made a 4K OLED Aurea 2 I would probably have bought it instead of the LG but they only went three sided and also did that weird projector thing which is total overkill.

Phillips (always a slightly odd brand, but nothing wrong with that) had a lot of bulbs to sell and were making tv's?

I got a strip of white leds and stuck them along the back of the top of my screen, connected to a radio switch plug I had lying around. Hey presto bias lighting. Cost £8!

I have taken a punt on the Ambivison Pro, which will apparently use a camera to enable it work with any number of HDMI sources/versions etc and even the internal tuner plus any smart apps like Netflix for instance. Not available till September at least though...

Cheaper alternative is to just buy an LED strip and change it to your fancy :p

Obviously won't be as dynamic and more for show but surely that's the point.

I had a standard backlight on my tv until I found this dreamscreen option, brought mine from Lime in the UK where I usually get my gaming bits from. Cant wait to test Rocketleague on it!! ill post a pic once I have it
