I've seen the film and can't rate it too highly. The effects are not bad at all, but the acting is some of the worst I've seen in years. However, the film contains a very clever twist on the Dracula theme that makes the film 'slightly' more engrossing than your usual B-movie fodder.
Definately one to rent, but not buy!

It really is bad. Wes Craven's got a lot to answer for and he seems prepared to slap his name on the cover of any bad slice of cheese these days.
Dracula's got no charisma, the other characters are painfully annoying and typical teen horror flick fodder, it's terrible. You want a modern American horror film, see Ginger Snaps for a worthwhile update of the werewolf movie, don't see this throwaway update of Dracula (unless you're a masochist) as it's pap.
But.....it's got an iminent release on DVD in the US, maybe in the next couple of months if I remember right, so if you really must have it on disc then you won't have to wait long. But you may regret it.

It'll be a bit of a shock for Scream fans if they see it as it's a proper horror film, none of the self-referencial "knowing" humour that Hollywood's fallen in love with post-Scream, but then it's not a Hollywood movie. It's low budget by todays standards and isn't full of OTT cgi nonsense, it's just good honest horror with a fair amount of blood. You know, how they used to make 'em... ;)
It's refreshing to see, and the atmosphere and scares work. It's a long time since the Yanks made a film that I could say that about.

Sounds good Rambo John....I think sometimes horror can be just as effective with a good storyline and atmospheric locations as being OTT with special effects.Used to love watching the old Hammer Horrors when I was a kid and still like them.Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were hard to beat in those days.... :D

    Cheers
