As the title implies, there is a fair chance that Dr Phelps will be making a trip over to Europe sometime in June. This is a perfect opportunity for all those interested in getting the most out of their projector the chance to obtain a first class calibration.

For those not aware of whom William Phelps is, he is the premier calibrator for both CRT and DILA pjs and the calibrator of choice by Sony and Faroudja for their PJs at trade shows. His expertise at transforming DILA pjs is unrivalled and he is also well know for the work he does with Sony CRTs in particular the G90.

He will be around for a few days in early June, not sure for how long, however he could possibly squeeze in a couple more calibrations, when he comes over to the UK to calibrate my PJs.

If anyone is interested in getting their pj calibrated please e-mail him at [email protected]. Also all questions relating to fees should be directed to him.

Hopefully if he can squeeze in another couple of calibrations, we could split his travel expenses.

you must have some setup to justify flying over a world class expert to calibrate your pj!

funny, i thought you had an infocus x1!

I'm sorry for my obvious ignorance, but the only Phelps I ever knew was Jim from Mission Impossible. :(

Well, then, I guess ignorance is bliss! :)

Make all the jokes you want, but if you want the best possible picture from your projector, you might want to do a little research...

Sheggs, please change the email address in that post to "[email protected]" if you don't mind.

William

I personally feel rather embarrassed for you guys, you are not only ignorant but rude. In future please direct your insults at me, William Phelps has done nothing to deserve this. Anyone who knows him will vouch that he is a very upstanding guy.

I was only making the post (not at his request) to find out whether any one else might be interested.

It is really poor showing to then use this as a means to take cheap potshots at him. Flame away if you will, but I have very little respect for people who behave like this.

Couldn't agree more sheggsl... Thankfully Dr Phelps appears to have a sense of humour...

Sheggsl,

I think you're off-beam here, having re-read this thread a couple of times I can't see where anyone impugned William Phelps' reputation, flamed him (or you) or was rude to him. If you were a regular contributor to this forum you would know that it's a good-humoured and helpful place - the posts which I presume you're complaining of are nothing more than good humour.

I have to agree with Theritz on this one, but I guess that would be expected.

Having contributed to the thread, initially highlighting my own ignorance of the gentleman and poking a bit of fun more on myself than anyone else, I’d like to apologise if Mr Phelps, or anyone else for that matter took offence, I can assure you none was intended, and I think that’s the case of the other contributors too.

To be perfectly honest I thought it was a wind- up as none of the highly regarded and knowledgeable regulars on this forum never even contributed to the thread. Almost a week passed without any comment being made at all. One would have expected at the very least a bit of excitement at this news.

What I did find a wee bit strange was that the thread starter had put up an email address for this person and apparently offering us the opportunity to perhaps negotiate over fees for the use of his calibration skills, suggesting that this was subject to a busy schedule by Mr Phelps and further suggesting that the said gentleman was “coming over here to calibrate my PJ’s”

If that is indeed what his sole purpose of the visit is, and how he earns a living then good luck to him and to his customers.

To suggest that anyone was being purposely rude or flaming anyone is arrant nonsense and I’m sure the very fair moderators of this excellent forum would have had something to say about it had anyone engaged in such tactics

As it stands, if anyone has been offended then I refer to the pertinent remarks I made earlier.

William (the plain old ordinary one)

I have to confess, when i saw the subject heading, i thought this was going to be a post about an adult film that had been posted here accidentally...............

Willam Phelps is, as Sheggs has said, highly regarded for CRT and DILA set up. His calibration system for DILA's is renowned and Faroudja exclusively use his services for their PJ and Scaler solutions.

I have asked for Williams help as an independant specialist with regard to Sony CRT set up and a dispute I was called in to between an end user and his UK installation company who didn't believe my recomendations. If I had a G90 I'd get William Phelps to show me how to get the best out of it.

Gordon,

I am aware of William Phelps' reputation and would love to be able to use his services (yours would do fine, in fact......) The only fly in the oitment is the reluctance of the Lotto to provide me with the means to get equipment which would benefit from such attention..............;)

Not wishing to go off-topic (!), but I can't resist............. have you seen the thread on avsforum on Art Sonneborns stacked G90s ?? There's a picture of two of them, new out of the box being set up........ OMG......
