I went to see Downfall last night.

Highly recommend this film if you can find it.

I never realised that a number of key people that stay in the bunker with Hitler not only survived but have recently died. Which explains the feeling of accuracy from all the actors.

    Powerful stuff.

    Sorry posted in wrong section.

Meant to be in Movies. Dohh!!!!!

Never fancied this film. Not sure it even warrants the big screen treatment as i've seen it re-enacted on countless TV documentaries and done very well too.

    That's a fair point Kevo.

I too have seen various doco's and documentary dramas non are as gripping as this film.

    Its deserves its critical reputation.

I'm sure the dvd sound will be better than the film because the russian artillery assualt in the cinema were shaking the seat fixings.

I thought this film excellent Dellboy. I didn't want to see it but my husband did and I was pleasantly surprised. Although we knew the outcome it was, as you say, gripping and gives a more rounded view of Hitler's personality.

My husband loves the war documentaries on Sky and I groan everytime one appears but this film kept me interested to the end.

Saw this last night - it has to be one of the greatest war films I've ever seen.

Such powerful and gripping performances; the whole audience was completely silent throughout the film and didn't move for a couple of minutes at the end.

Looking forward to seeing this again on DVD in a short while.

Appreciate it if a moderator could move this post to the cinema section where it should be.

I saw this a while back in the Cinema as I have now lived for several years in Germany. The response from the Germans was almost spooky. Before going in there was the usual chatting and laughing going on but on exiting the cinema almost total shocked silence, I have never witnessed anything like it.Also during the film a lady sitting next to me burst into tears and started sobbing uncontrollably (if you have seen the film you can probably guess which part). I highly recommend this to everyone, gritty, realistic etc. most definitely not your typical hollywood fare.

Managed to watch my dvd of this tonight and thought the film was excellent and very gripping, it gives a great insight into the decisions that were made during the final days of WW2 and actually manages to catapult you into Berlin during those final days/hours. I enjoy watching documentaries on WW2 so this is right up my street anyway, the 2 1/2 hours running time just flew by.

It is one of the best war films and the best period film i have seen and all the acting was excellent, especially Bruno Ganz.

The sound on the dvd is also excellent and nearly blew me from my seat when the first Russian artilliary landed.
