Recently got this, brilliant film

however..... why are the only subtitles 'English Hard of Hearing' ?

    This sucks :thumbsdow

As much as I enjoyed the film it did detract from the overall experience having crap like *gunshots* appearing all over the place

If I'd known in advance I would have searched for another region's version, such a shame as everything else about the dvd (picture quality, DTS, extras are all great) :(

Checking out the DVD Times review it appears that you are absolutely correct. A most unusual and annoying oversight. Apparently the German R2 does not have this problem, and also has the DTS track. Must be a mistake surely? I'm quite sure a future release will correct this, of little consolation to you however:-( Thanks for the heads-up, I was about to order this.

Wonderful film...right up there with Das Boot....I to hope they sort that problem out...maybe a decent special edition will be made...this film certainly deserves it

    Hi

Couldn't agree more, I watched it yesterday - superb film, but when a subtitle appears saying 'MUSIC' it does tend to ruin the effect somewhat!

How was it listed when you bought it. You might be avle to get your money back as it not what you were after. Could take a while of complaining.

    I bought this movie, too.

Wonderful film, but those subs. Was gonna write to the DVD makers to complain, but would it help?

My copy of Downfall is fine. If you don't choose any subtitles it defaults to normal English subtitles.

That's what mine does, but it's the only subtitle track on the disc, and has the audio descriptive stuff on it too. The first occurance of this is when some German soldiers are carrying large packing cases across a street and they get shelled.

I didn't look at the box when I bought it, just presumed it would have the same subs that were on the cinema release, but it does say that the subs are English hard of hearing on the box, so I guess there's not a lot that can be done, it's not as if it was falsely marked or anything.

    Still a fantastic film though.

Anyone considering buying this magnificent film should consider the German R2 version which has a demonstration standard DTS sound track.

    What are the subtitles like?

The UK R2 has DTS, so it's probably the same soundtrack.

They are normal english i.e not 'English Hard of Hearing'.

Would also agree that this is an excellent film.

    Yes, I've got the R3 & the R2.

R3 sounded a lot better - to me at any rate.
    Certainly louder & more open.
With the R3 - when the motar shell hit near the begining it really did almost blow out my windows !

The R2 - even on DTS didn't compare imho.
That being said 90% of the movie content is obviously vocal.

R3 was certainly worth it for me & got the R2 for the 2nd disc & extras which wern't on the R3.
