It must be nearly ten years since talk started flying concerning the filming of 'Doom' based on the smash pc game with big names like arnie, van damme etc tipped to play the role of john grimm but the project has been on the back burner for so long that I had assumed it had long gone the way of the dodo but it appears that filming starts next month with Karl Urban (cradle to the grave ) in the lead role and Andrzej Bartkowiak directing.
The Rock (dwayne johnson) has been cast as a demonic bad guy!

Well I'm now nearing the end of Doom 3 (never played the first two) and have to say its gonna be hard for a film to match this level of intensity. It's like walking around in a blood bath, with Zombies Monsters and other things that seem to have a nasty habit of jumping out on you. It has to be the scariest game I've ever played and scarier than most films I've seen. If they stick to the same formula then they’ll have a winner.

Have there been any decent films based on games?

Tomb Raider 1, is the only 1/4 decent film that springs to mind.

The only good thing about Tomb Raider 1 IMO was getting to watch Angolina Jolie run around in tight outfits for 90 minutes... :D

I may be alone but I thought Resident Evil was quite good.

i just watched Resident Evil Apocalypse and i thought that was quite good.

I also liked Cradle of Life, despite the shark punching scene

and in the dark scenes, the character can only have a gun or a torch, not both!

Thats only because the other hand had to carry a side arm, shotgun, rifle, chainsaw, rocket launcher and grenades. Dont think they'll be putting that in the movie.

They've actually already started on this. Double Negative have been doing the previs on the VFX work for well over a month already.
