Just a thread for all those who have just got their PSPs and see the stupid warning inthe box (shown here http://www.ps2nfo.com/) and mentioned here on other threads.

The joys of not upgrading greatly outweigh the stupid firmware 2.0. Sony knows this, that's why it tried to scare you onthe packaging.
    Be strong friends

correct me if i'm wrong but don't you only get the superior AVC format if you get v2?

that and browser outweighs anything with homebrew for me.

Amen. I haven't seen anything good from the homebrew scene apart from psp video 9.

but the browser's memory problems and general cr@piness is well documented on various PSP sites Yeah, I've heard you do get superior AVC format, but it's only an improvement on something that is already very good.

The decision is obviously up to the individual. It is only my suggestion that they play around with 1.5x themselves and then make an informed deision on whether to upgrade. The way sony puts the warning it's like their PSP will blow up if they don't upgrade.

I did see the silly warning and thought pah! I've been waiting for months for this thing I'm not messing about loading stuff on now - so I loaded TOCA2.

I will probably end up loading firmware 2 as homebrew doesn't seem to offer much more than some Nintendo emulators and I am the only person in the world to hate the Mario games :)

AVC is way better than the standard mp4. I have put a number of cartoons (Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy etc.) on in both formats and AVC is a huge improvement. That and the browser make 2.0 the best choice (for me!).

all i say is take a good look around the PSP forums out there and see what 1.5x and a large memory stick has to offer you.

The browser has had so-so reviews, and is OK for those who have a wireless network or would rather have the pleasure of surfing on the settee (can you do it on the move? Do you have to hack into someone's wireless network?) rather than getting up and doing it on their pc (which has a java-enabled browser, good bookmarks etc)

    the choice is yours

OH yes!!! I was able to play before I bought last night which was cool but there are full fields of cars (20/21) loads of championships, career mode, great graphics although my driving leaves a little to be desired as I learn the tracks :smashin:

I reccomend it but if you can try before you buy to be certain.

    Regards

    Hi all,

I was in two minds to update or to wait for the hacked downgrader (v1.52 to 1.5) to come out but in the end I upgraded and glad I did. One reason was because I was having problems with WEP encryption (with 1.52) and am now using WPA instead - you only get that with v2.0. The internet browser is great, and there are some nice little extra features such as avc and aac.

    Cheers,
    Pete.
