Left it a bit late to ask the question but here goes.

    New 42'' Panny coming tomorrow.

Been told by two people that the screen should not be touched when telly is on.

Problem: 3 year old child who cant keep his mit's off the telly.

Are we looking at a telly with a short life, or are they talking rubbish?

    Please help!

Discipline is the only answer unfortunately. Not easy.

But if it helps, my 3 year old has touched our TV on occasion, usually to point out something on the Wii dashboard (he's now 3foot4 although couldn't reach when I first got it - so I don't know why I bothered mounting it high!) and it's fine, I just wipe off any fingerprints with a microfibre cloth

I take it from that link that the Plasma is still in working order.

    How's the cat doing?

Surely this stems from the plasma screens of old that used to run VERY hot when switched on for a while.
In fact there used to be a probable 'urban myth' regarding children's TV presenter Andy Peters who apparently kissed a very hot plasma screen and burnt his lips (ouch!)
I can't see how normal sticky fingers can cause any lasting damage. It just means that you will no doubt have to clean the screen every day :thumbsdow

Our plasmas at work have been mauled about when on, chucked around in the back of vans, scratched badly, laid down in the back of an astravan as they didn't fit in standing up (trucking them any way other than standing up - although this can mean upside down or on it's end - is a bad idea apparently) and even dropped (my little bro dropped one in a flightcase on work experience trying to get it into a van on his own, it worked fine afterwards and ever since!) and they all still work fine - make of this what you will.....

Yeah I agree with the transporting them not standing up , My plasma got delivered , the guy asked for a hand bringing it into the house , yes it was standing up when i went out to the van but there were no signs of any ropes etc so unless he drove at 1mph my Plasma got transported lying flat down !
It was the only thing in the van

    Thanks for all the info.

    Much appreciated.

Telly duly arrived today, and is working great.

Will be back again if it goes pear shaped.

How long does it take to knock up a kebab on a 42'' Panny?

    Cheers

If you go into a store like Currys etc they show you the difference with LCD and Plasma by pressing hard on the screen and smearing their finger along it (LCD screen goes all smeary as they have a soft surface and you can squash the liquid crystal where as nothing happens to Plasma as it has a hard surface.

Not a myth. I can remember the program, and look of surprise/pain on his face.
