Hello everyone, this is my first post! Looking for some advice on creating a good but not too expensive home cinema.

Currently getting the house renivated, knocking few walls down, new bathroom, new kitchen etc.

So far I have chosen the screen i want. I want the panasonic pv500. I have got an idea on the speakers too, Bose Acoustimass 16 Speakers!

I am not sure if I will need an amp or what cables to buy. I know the screen will be amazing but unsure on the speakers and amp.

I will build a computer as well to attach to the tv, so i can download and watch trailers ;) etc. When the new xbox 360 is out thats being connected up. I got sky+ too to connect. Will need a good dvd player that will play anything from divx to mpeg and avi if its possible.

Theres quite a bit of equipment. Any advice would be great.

    Thanks

    Adamo

Welcome to the forum, you really need to have a read up in the various sections to get an idea of what is highly regarded in each area. You will need to add an av amp and you may want to reconsider the speakers, have a look at the Anthony Gallos, also small satellite and sub package but they sound so, so, so much better.
There are some very good amps for very good prices from the likes of Denon, Yamaha etc. etc.

I think the choice of screen is a good one, you may want to consider a panel rather than tv though if you are using sky as a tuner and a seperate amp and speakers for the sound.

Your correct about the bose speakers. according to pritty much everyone on the specialist audio visiual forums, bose a rubbish. I thought they were good mainly due to the fact they advertise everywhere.

Size really isnt an issue, its quality at the right price. If anyone can give me an example set up it would give me a better idea.

Can u recommend a plasma panel similar to the panasonic pv500?

    Thanks

    Adamo

Panel wise I would look at the new HD8 from Panasonic and the new Pioneer 436, but neither are out for a month or two, which may or may not be a problem?

Speakers and amp are very personal, where are you based, can you get a demo of various combinations?

Will you use it for music too? That may change what you go for on the sound side.

sound side is mainly film watching and xbox gaming, sky+ etc. I dont mind waiting for the right plasma.

I am from warrington, cheshire. as for the personal aspect of the speakers and amp, i love to hear peoples opinions on what they think is good, so dont be scared to tell me. ust looking at Bowers & Wilkins speakers and denon amps.

If it were me I would look at maybe getting something used, specially on the speaker side. Everyone likes a different sound, displays are different, everyone can tell a decent picture, although it seems alot of people can't tell a crap one :)

You need to have a listen and take it from there, Loads of people love a sharp lively sound where as I can't stand it, it really is a case of demo, demo, demo and demo.

Sod 'em, just go and have a listen to a couple of systems, if they turn out alright give them the business if not buy it elsewhere, but at least you will get an idea of the sound you like.
