most of recent amps (I'm looking for a dolby ex amp) are not laser disc enabled - are there any dealers out there who can modify amps to work in conjunction with ld's or provide modulators?

Many Pioneer receivers and amplifiers have internal demodulators, obviously because of Pioneer's Laserdisc heritage, but elsewhere internal demodulators are becoming increasingly rare. You could try to find a used demodulator – from the likes of eBay http://www.ebay.com/ - or 'phone around in case a dealer has old Yamaha or B&K stock.
