    Hey everyone !

I hooked up my Sony DvD 525 with an optical cable to the Denon and all
    movies play well ( only 5.1 speakers ) !

    The problem :
The receiver is set to AUTO !
With DTS I get a special "Detect DTS" light and the receiver indicated
playing : DTS ( this is correct )
BUT with normal Dolby Digital 5.1 movies I'm not getting the "Dolby Digital
Detected" light and the receiver keeps telling : DTS Neo:6 !!

What is wrong with my setup ? Allthough I'm getting rear speaker sound with
DD5.1 a still think it's not completly correct...

    Hi

The AUTO mode should work with everything. Have you checked the output of your dvd player?? is it set to bitstream for both DTS & Dolby Digital??

If you have the player connected via analogue cables as well it might be picking up this signal instead. Also doublecheck the dvd disc audio setup as lots of Region 1 discs default to a Pro-Logic track (this combined with analogue cables will give DTS Neo if thats the last setting used on that input).

Have you tried manually pressing the Dolby button to see if it picks up the signal?

I had a similar problem with my Denon 3802 - the conclusion was that I had been stupid and had accidentally set my DVD player to output in PCM stereo not Dolby Digital. After changing the DVD menu option, everything worked fine.

Okay..I have a similar problem...but my old Tosh 2109 hasnt got an optical cable..so am connecting via co-ax cable..

my problem is that if the co-ax is connected to the (yellow) DVD IN Jack ( As in the Manual) then I cant pick up a digital signal..but if I connect the co-ax to the DIGITAL CO-AX IN then I get a digital signal..

    Any ideas guys ????????

    Cheers

Well the problem is solved !!

I checked the settings of my dvd player ( as suggested in the reply's )... and guess what !
The output was pointing to D-PCM, when I changed this setting to Dolby Digital everything was ok !!!!!

    Thanks guys !

The co-ax cable carries audio only but the yellow DVD in jack on the amp is for a video signal.

Connect the co-ax cable to one of the co-axial inputs on the amp and you may have to configure it in the amp setup menu.
