Dolby Digital from Sky HD into Denon AVR-1311

I've just bought a Denon AV Receiver, an upgrade from my 8 year old Denon.

If I plug the HDMI from my Sky HD box in I can only get Neo or PLII sound. I understand that Sky don't send 5.1 sound down the HDMI for whatever reason.

However, if I plug the HDMI into the TV and use a coaxial or an optical, it makes a funny noise every time I change channels.

Is there a setting to override the HDMI audio from the Sky box and use the optical or coaxial feed instead please?

Had same problem mate albeit with different Denon amp - see here : CLICKY

This is how i have my 1910 setup. don't know if it's similar.

Switch amp & sky on. Select a Sky channel with DD
Make sure you set your sky box sound settings, to, Digital Audio Output to (Dolby D)

Then go to your amp remote

Press Menu Button
5. input setup
3. input mode & select "Digital"

Press Return Button Until Your Back To TV Screen.

Your Amp will display Dolby if correct.

Then Press & hold the quick select button no 2 [sat/cbl] for a few seconds,(top of remote).
The settings are now stored, (just like your car stereo).

Sorted.

Depending what else you have running off your amp just press Quick Select Button 2 for sky. Once again, (just like your car stereo).

JUST BE AWARE That you will only get DD from channels actually broadcasting it.
For all other channels I have it set to PLII

One problem I'm having is that there's a cracking like noise when you stop a Sky + recording as the sound almost has to be forced into the amp.

Is there a solution to this at all?
