Great news. Been waiting for this one. No update on my box yet though.
Only problem is i couldnt find anything that had Atmos on their to try it.
I doubt there will be anything with Atmos until the new football season starts although it would be nice if Sky had some sort of Atmos demo available for testing setups etc.
Tried 4 forced updates over past 2 weeks and nada. Anyone know when rollout commences?
Very soon one would imagine
Is Atmos only available through HDMI connection? I currently send audio from Q box through my receiver via an optical cable.
Should hit the remaining boxes next week.
There's nothing using Atmos yet - first content will be the Premier League matches and later in the year for on demand UHD content.
Sky has confirmed that it will offer Dolby Atmos audio this year. An Atmos software update will be rolled out later this summer. The first beneficiary of the 3D audio upgrade will be live Premier League football, where Dolby Atmos will partner UHD visuals.

Can't wait to try it out with the football!

Atmos is already out there - it was part of the update which started rolling out a couple of weeks ago. First content with it will be the UHD Premier League coverage, then later in the year it'll start showing up in on demand UHD content.
I presume that they're encoding Atmos within a Dolby Digital Plus audio bitstream.
Would be nice if they offered DD+ on regular HD channels as that can achieve superior AQ vs DD for the equivalent bit rate.
Amazon Fire TV (2nd Gen?) offers DD+ or DD output (the box down mixes DD+ to DD), not sure if the Sky HD boxes could manage that though so we might be stuck with regular DD for a while longer
My Q box had the option, the box was replaced on Monday and the new one does not have it, strange thing is the mini box upstairs still has the option on the menu for Dolby Digital+ even though it is not uhd capable.
That's because your box that was swapped had obviously received the update unlike your replacement. Everyone's box will get it soon enough.
Technically doesn't need to be UHD to get Dolby Atmos just like you can get Blurays with Atmos.
Nice. That means that Sky are planning to support DD+ on HD channels
Can OP post up the firmware number please?

Got update this morning. Assume it's to all boxes now.
Personally I can't see the benefit for Dolby atmos being used for football matches...it's where movies really shine on the format...I see this more as a gimmick. If sky uses atmos for UHD movies then that's worth it.
Think mine updated over night as well so will check tonight. Damn, if they start having Atmos UHD movies then I'm going to have to buy some speakers!
Same here. And I tried a "forced update"
It's not on the DR stream yet, so a forced update won't work. Try again this afternoon.
It wouldn't update during the day would it?
The DR stream now has the latest version so you should be able to force an update now.
My main box updated overnight, was stuck in the morning so needed a power reset. Set HDMI Audio out to DD+
Mines updated as well. Presume theres no point changing to DD+ until I've got the extra speakers (and there's content)?
