I've currently got a pair of onkyos sat on top of some Apex speakers at the front. Considering replacing them with the Kefs and the only thing holding me back is there is so little Atmos material and I haven't found them to add much with anything else.

How are you powering your models, internal or external?

If I get the rears as well that would need to be external. I believe you don't need much in the way of elaborate amplification for modules. What are you using?

image.jpg Recently upgraded the front Onkyo Dolby atmos speakers to the KEF R50's.

Just need another pair now for the back of the room.

They are built better and more importantly sound much better! :)

Jupiter Ascending has a great atmos mix.

We just need more atmos titles.

Hopefully San Andreas and Max Max Road Fury will have atmos mixes included when they get released later this year.

My living room is a project in process and I will be uploading pics as soon as it is ready.......

Trying to keep my lady happy at the moment as all the cables are in plain sight......

As a big fun of the Jurassic series, I do hope that it will have a Dolby atmos or at least dts:x mix when it will be realised on BluRay.

If your amp is set to Dolby surround the upmixer is working and gives good results on non atmos material.
That's why you can hear the R50's! :)

Try Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes which isn't an atmos blu ray.
The upmixer does a great job of adding height especially when the apes are swinging through the forest.

Thanks for that. I've also found that when listening to an HD soundtrack the amp a Denon X7200WA switched the R50's off.

Not sure why the amp is turning the R50's off.
You should have all speakers active when you chose dolby surround as this adds either the 2 or 4 height/upfiring channels in.

With normal dolby surround it left them on, it was the blu ray film Fury which had no Dolby but a DTS HD soundtrack.

image.jpg With Fury playing your Denon amp should show this
Press green movie button on remote and select Dolby surround.
Your R50's will be active then! :)

On listening to Fury and Avengers Assemble, the Atmos speakers seem to be getting a lot of the soundtrack and some effects. Is that anyone else's impressions ?

Does distance from the front modules to MLP make a huge difference? I'm asking because I sit about 11 feet away from front 3 speakers.

    Thanks in advance

Are there any other medium range modules available or is it just the Kefs.

Don't want to replace my current speakers just yet

I sit about 7 ft from my front KEF R50 speakers and get a nice effect.
Not sure about being 11ft away.

Don't think there are any modules other than the cheap Onks at £130 a pair and then quite a price hike to the KEF R50 at £600.
The KEF's are far superior speakers and sound great! :)

Kiipsch has just released some modules as an upmarket alternative to the Kefs. Don't know when they hit the UK. There are other brands in the US.

Reference Premiere Dolby Atmos® | High Quality Audio by Klipsch®

A quick update on the Pioneer Atmos speakers!

I can say with confidence that these are some of the best speakers I've owned.

Had some concerns in the beginning but, it was due to the source.

VERY analytical, balanced and without colouring the sound. You hear only what you are suppose to hear. I honestly love them and they are more balanced and better imho than my ex KEFs XQ5, B&W 693 or MA silvers - at least by my very humble opinion.

For music great but, with movies?

AMAZING! The soundstage is in a different league, open, wide and everything is where is supposed to be! the Atmos modules make the difference indeed when watching an Atmos based movie.

There are moments that when you close your eyes, you do feel that something is around your head.

Waiting to get the new sub for unlimited movie nights :)

Looking at the pictures, and i suddenly realised that if they built a wall mountable module speaker that also had a direct fire drive, you could have atmos and auro in one.

Is there anywhere in the UK that have the Pioneer Dolby Atmos Speakers set up in a demonstration room?
