Does VGA carry HD signals?????????

Newbie here!!!!!
I am thinking of upgrading my Optoma 30 DLP with a Infocus IN76 720p HD DLP.
Question is...............at the moment I am connected with VGA (all the 30 has!)
My XBOX 360 is connected with component to VGA switching box, also has Sky+ on a scart connection to VGA.

In order for me to see true HD do I need to run a 10m component cable from the XBOX to the IN76 or does VGA carry HD signals?

VGA will carry HD signals up to 1080p so far

So do I get better quality from HDMI or component rather than convert both to the VGA?
