    a S-VHS / harddrive machine that lets you archive to dvd disc?

    Only if you buy a seperate S-VCR and HDD/DVDR combo! Which, in all honesty, is precisely what such a machine would be anyway. Panasonic are releasing a VHS/HDD/DVDR combo next year but it is only VHS not S-VHS. You could do alot worse than just get a cheap HDD/DVDR such as the Panasonic E85, Toshiba RX32 or Pioneer 420 and a decent S-VCR from JVC or Panasonic.
