Sorry if this has been asked before (i did search!) but I have a Sony KDL-40V2000 connected to a Sony RDR-GX120 via component. It plays back pretty well but I have Progressive output switched off.

According the the DVD manual the target TV needs to support either 525p / 625p to support progressive output from the DVD player.

    Looking at the Sony website the KDL-40V2000 supports:576i / 480p / 576p /1080i / 720p but not 525p or 625p.

I assume then I can't use progressive output with my TV, but before I give up I thought I'd ask anyone that actually knows what they are talking about!

525p is exactly the same as 480p. And is also known (not exactly correctly) as NTSC.
625p is exactly the same as 576p. Aka PAL.

Strange, but true. Just different terms; in each case, the larger number refers to the total number of lines per frame in the signal and the lower figure refers to the number of lines used for picture information per frame.
