    Jamie - wrt the Svideo - composite, it would be useful to know if this worked so do update us with the results.

    I can't comment on the particular model recommended in the other thread but I have an equivalent device, sourced from Sevenoaks HiFi & Video, that plugs directly into the back of my AV amp (thus obviating the need for one S-Video cable). From memory, the difference between my device and the one you're discussing is the male/female aspect. If you went with the other thread's recommendation then you would need an S-Video cable to connect the adaptor to your amp.

    The principle is sound, though. It definitely works.
