I am thinking of mounting a new plasma and speakers on a breeze block wall in my house. I have a garage on the otherside of the wall. I was thinking of running the cables (2 x Scart, 1 x Component & Audio) along the wall in the garage and then back into the room. As the Garage is unheated, would the cold affect the performance of the cable? Its not running outdoors, so it will always be dry, but having spent 30 mins looking at it last night i can tell you its not a warm room either

To be honest i dont think it would, but am not 100% and as i have spend ££££ on kit, dont want to do a stupid thing?

If the garage gets down to zero (which it will) then yes you want to consider using a cable that's designed for use in low temperatures otherwise the cable will tend to go brittle and perish.

We often use VanDamme custom cables in such situations as they can make up cables using camera cable and the like which is designed for sub zero use - drop me a note if you want more info.

I'd also look at containing the cables in a conduit - saves any furry friends having a bit of a chew on it :)

    Best regards

    Joe

    Hello Cwoj,

Belden 7710A component cable is rated down to -40 degrees C, that's cold, so no problem at all in the garage !

Most of the Belden broadcast cables are rated to -40 or -30 C

As Joes says, protect the cables from Mice etc.

I would install some decent size trunking in the garage, maybe 100x50mm , and drill 50mm or 60mm holes through the wall, so terminated cables can easily be routed.

    Hope that helps !

    Mark.
