in relation to thread under dvds lotr r2 dialogue hard to hear, i disconected all speakers apart from center played lotr speech and music were being outputed, (not sure if with all others disconected amp treated center as a front for example) so does the center output dialogue only , or its down to the individual dvd,

I'll elobrate. The centre speaker will output whatever the sound engineer wants it to. 99% of the dialogue does come from the centre, but it's also used for music and effects.

Often, pre-recorded music will come only from the left and right (with ambience added to the surrounds). When using a matrix decoder like Dolby Pro Logic though, anything that is common to the left and right channels will be steered to center.

I wonder if sound mixers will start using Dolby Pro Logic II to upmix 2-channel music to 5.1? It seems to be well fit for the job.
