they have always had some great package deals..... i bought a couple from the whathifi ads a few years back..... only thing to beware is that you know what you want. Often you will go in and they will claim to be out of stock of something...... have this instead..... often you are being sold a lemon so it pays to know your alternatives before you go on.

I have dealt with Richer Sounds in the past and find them to be very good. Got my Sony DAVS 550 multi region for under £230, they threw in a svideo to scart lead, gave me a free mug & a free pair of Sony headphones to boot! Well chuffed!

Last year I was interested in the Richer Sounds deal for the pioneer digibox. After a number of requests to the Sheffield branch to order me one, as it was an "instore" price, I asked customer service to send one to Sheffield. I had even e-mailed them at Cus/serv to send one to Sheffield for me to call in and buy. After a lot of phone calls to RS I gave up trying and bought one elsewhere.
May have been a busy time for them but I got the feeling they wanted me to visit the shop and buy a different D/B.

helen's experience is not unusual..... as i say, if you arent persistant then you will end up with what they want to sell you. Sometimes, as helen says, you are better to pass that up

I would just like to say this about RC, take a look at their sale the prices are the same as they were before they put a "For sale" sign up, something wrong here i think.

My thoughts exactly Danez! With some of the prices actually being higher than mid last year and all these lame people running around going wow lets buy stuff in the sales filling up Richer sounds just makes you think "what?"

You know sometimes I go into that Maidstone RS and they are most helpful and will give you a good deal, another time even the same guy just won't play ball.

A case in point, right now they have a Sony STR-DB780B with no remote control, no box and pretty scratched up where things have been resting on it. They offered to me for £165.

I check on the net and find out that Empire Direct have them for £165.33 new, boxed with remote control and in-stock.

At the right price the RS one would have been ideal for me, I have a pronto and it's only for a 2nd system. They told me to buy it from Empire then. WHich is what I did, ordered Friday, due to arrive Monday.

I check the RS website and they have clearance ones for £165.00 too.

    I paid £270 for my sony dav-s550!

No free s-video to scart lead either or mug or headphones! :(

What am I doing wrong lol

I'm quite a shy character and I think that they sense this and don't give me a good deal whereas people who are more confident may come away with a better deal,

    James :)

I had to quibble with them to get my 550 at that price ;) and their free mug offer was redeemable by printing off the voucher from their site, and i had to ask for the free head phones & lead

But it proves the old adage ''if you don't ask then you don't get!''

Hey James, I'm pretty shy and live in Leeds too but as previous poster says, show evidence of cheaper price elsewhere and they won't have any problem knocking he price down (or they shouldn't.) I was offered a Philips AV receiver for £160 when I knew it was £150 in Argos (didn't want it anyhow.)

I have used richer sounds many times. What you have to remember they opporate in a market place. They has to source goods to sell, the price they pay will go up or down depending on market demand.

I have never had anybody sale me anything I didn't want, and remember you use richer sounds to buy hi-fi and home cinema products at a discount price. Go to curry's or a hi-fi shop and see how much you pay. My last purchase from richer sounds was Toshiba DVD player 330 for £79 and that was multi regieon, you will not find this DVD player cheaper elsewhere.

I try very hard to find products I want at discount prices and I am finding it increasingly difficult. Manufactorers are coming up with ways to stop discount retailers like richers sounds from selling their products. In some cases they just won't supply to them if they discount.

Retailers like richer sounds are scared to complain about these practices in case they are blacklisted. And don't think that does not happen. I use sound and vision in bolton, and they don't supply B&W speakers anymore, S&V because want to sell them mail order at a discount. Kef speakers you can buy at a discount, but they are not allowed to sell them mail order and its the same with arcam. Rel won't supply them and any store that are supplied are not allowed to sell by mail order. There excuse is its specialist equipment that should be set up by the store. But you can walk in these stores and buy and set it yourself so its just an excuse to stop retailers like richers sounds selling at a discount.

I know this sounds like I have gone off track a bit, but I am trying to show that when you ring up for something and its not in stock it could be they can no longer get supplies, they have been blocked. I have noticed the amount of mission products richer sounds sell have been greatly reduced.

If any of you on this forum want these practices to stop so retailers can like richers sounds and sound & vision can supply you with goods at a discount via mail order and a good range of goods somebody needs on this forum should start a pressure group to get the office of fair trading to investigate. To collect as much eveidence as possible and maybe somebody invovled in the industry to give evidence. I have spoken to many retailers who will not complain to the office of fair trading in fear all suppliers will black list them.

There is a lot going on in the industry to keep prices high.

Can't complain about my local RS, went in yesterday enquiring about them price matching the Yamaha AV 25 with unbeatable (Yamaha 5630 amp and yamaha 5.1 speakers) for £221, which he was more than happy to do, but ended up getting the Yamaha RX-V540 (£279.95) and a set of Eltax Avantgarde 5.1 speakers (£199.95) for the total of £320 and he chucked in 10 metres of decent speaker cable too (and the obligatory mug)!!

Very happy, now got the facility for 6.1 instead of 5.1. Tried the amp and speakers this morning, very impressed, especially at that price!!
