The manual for my amolifier, a Yamaha DSP-AX750SE tells me that I should allow ventilation space of at least 30cm on top, and 20cm each side and tha back. Isn't this a bit over the top?

I want to buy a matching dvd player (like the S1500) and sit it on top of the amp. Am I really likely to have problems?

    Thanks.

I do not think it is a good idea to sit things on top of amps, they generate a lot of heat.
If it doesn't actually burst into flames you may shorten the life of the components in it :thumbsdow

How much space would you suggest then? If it was 30cm I would,'t even be able to place it in a normal hifi rack built for the purpose.

You might be able to put the s1500 under the amp though, I know i used to have my sony 725 under my yamaha 620, although the dvd player is build like a tank, not sure if the yammy could take the wieght.

A few inches all around should be enough to provide ventilation unless your equipment runs particularly hot.

The problem with trying to put a DVD player beneath an amp is that modern players are only about half the depth! Before my current arrangement I had my DVD player on a board of wood which was seperated above my amp by 4 squash ball halves, it wasn't ideal but it all worked quite happily. :)

Another idea is to get some kind of spacers, but the problem with puting the DVD player on top of the amp is that the DVD will be getting alot of heat thrown at it, which might not be soo good for it's longevity.

I've got a Denon AVC-A11SR with a DVD player sitting on top of it with Half squash balls in between. Never had a problem with heat issues.

It'd be impossible to put the DVD under the amp due to the depth of the DVD player being about 80mm shorther in depth.

I'm sure that if your amp ever got in to trouble heat wise, that it'd soon let you know and shut down anyway.

My 750SE only has a couple of inches of space from the top and it runs without problems... so far! :)

That receiver produced nearly no heat at all, so i would just check how it goes...though you might just better put a few pieces of wood or whatever between them to make sure it lasts the next 10 years :)
