Hey guys incase you didnt notice im new here. and i joined to see if you guys can help me with a major problem.
I have an import japanise PS3. Now i live in the UK and recently i bought a HDTV and a HDMI cable to use with the PS3. But somehow it doent seem to be working. I mean my xbox 360 works great with component cables but i just cant get anything from the HDMI input from the PS3. But if i use normal Scart with it, it works fine. But the quality on a scart is rubbish. So could you guys tell me that are all HDMI signels the same all around the world in terms of PS3's or do they have some ****** up sony region locking thing aswel. Or is there as special way to get a hdmi working becuase iv never used it before. Any help will be appriciated,

Yes HDMI is the same worldwide, if you are having a problem getting a picture then it could be your TV, are you certain it is HDCP compliant? because if it is not then you wont get anything but a black screen when using HDMI.

Remember to also change it to HDMI under the Display settings, just connect using composite, set it to HDMI and flick over to your HDMI input to see if you have an image.

If you've used the RGB cable then the PS3 is set to use that every time you turn it on. All you need to do is go to 'picture settings' and change the display output to HDMI, et voila :)

As Jogon says, you have to set it to HDMI output in the menu. Set it up with your scart, change the settings on the menu then try your HDMI, it should work. A lot of HDMi equpment works like this... i got caught out with a DVD player a while back for the same reason and felt quite foolish when someone on here ointed out the reason why i was getting a black screen!Hope this helps!:)

Glad you got it sorted. I thought it may have been because the PS3 isn't too compatible with 'Microsoft' lol

The easy way is to hold the power button until it double beeps when you turn in on, makes it search for an output (yes, im a pro PS3 mover... damn SD tv....)

lols i love my 360 too much more then the PS3 and if i hadnt won my ps3 in a competition then i wouldnt have spent money on it anyway. But yeh MICROSOFT RULES!

Although on a side note HDMI does have some DRM issues that will most likely come into play in the future.

So in a way PS3 does have 'some ****** up sony region locking thing aswel'

i dont know about anything else but the fact that blue ray films and PS2 and PS1 games cant work on my PS3 does suck big time but in a way its a good thing becase blue ray films come out in japan and usa first anyway and i will be able to get them way before the come in the UK.

Another thing, its gona sound n00bish but do you need a 1080p hdtv to make the ms3 go upto 1080p from the settings. I KNOW IT SOUNDS OBVIOUS but i wanted to know that on a standerd HD tv is 1080i the max i can get from a ps3?

Yes your TV must support 1080p to use 1080p.

My HDMI cable offers 1080i and 1080p on my Panny pX60.
Officially that panel only does 1080i but the ps3 says it's doing 1080p anybody else had that experience?

IMHO the HDMI is vastly superior even my wife can tell the difference.

My XBOX 360 looks best on Component anyway so thats good.

That said I have an IXOS HDMI cable which is a pretty good one. That might make a difference.

Definately not here - I ticked 1080p (just in case) and my little Sony didn't like it.

More than happy with the 1080i output anyway, I must say!
