Does Freeview Play require an aerial antenna source to work?

If a Freeview Play enabled TV is connected successfully to the Internet in the UK, would it be possible to scroll back on the TV guide to view programmes from the last 7 days in the case where the TV has a very weak or no aerial TV signal? This would be a scenario where the TV would have a very strong stable Internet connection but may not be able to receive Freeview channels over the air because of a weak aerial signal.

I'd welcome any advice on this query.
