Does colour matter or is it the sound quality?

All, your advice and comments would be welcomed on my quandry. I have nearly aquired all of the Mission Elan E3 setup in black, but cannot locate a black E3ASR subwoofer for approx £200. I can however get a walnut one for £195 MISSION E3ASR SUBWOOFER (WALNUT) - available from Superfi UK Visit http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/product_id/4132 for details

What would you do, buy a walnut sub and hide it, so it does stick out? Or buy say the Epos M sub for £244 in black. My skirting board are walnut but my telly and stand are all in black.

My room size is 3.3m x 4.2m so not massive.

    What would you do??

You gonna listen to it or gawp at it :rotfl:

Seriously I'd start to look at BK for just above that sort of money and you'll never regret it for one minute. And you could pick your finish too.

That is a great deal on that sub... even better than the deal we got on our M series one just over a year ago. If no one has the black at that price is walnut the only one you would consider? You can find it in cherry or walnut here... MISSION E3ASR-Cherry (E3ASR) 300W Subwoofer - www.hiwayhifi.com

I believe the picture of the cherry one is the correct picture because it is meant to include a remote control and would have that little window (as our M series one does). I think the cherry is a nicer contrast than the walnut with the black. What color woods do you have in your furniture? You could possibly paint it black.

Specs are great on that sub. Even better than ours and we are more than happy with ours. If we didn't have a sub yet that E3ASR would certainly tempt me. I notice that some shops are still selling it for the original retail price.

No subwoofer is really complete without a nice bit of cloth and a table lamp. Or even a tasteful ornament.
The original colour becomes secondary to the enjoyment it brings to the home as a support for something else. :)

Oh I forgot to mention that. We have a small dimmable lamp sitting on the subwoofer. Looks nice and adds ambient light when we watch movies.

This is just the same as selling black AV receivers at a premium. If you spend your time looking at the kit, there is something wrong with your viewing content :)

Look at BK - cracking subs.

Could one of you chaps who says colour doesn't matter please explain this concept to my girlfriend?

If I had a dedicated room for the AV kit then maybe, but since it's all in the lounge, black speakers are unacceptable for anything other than surrounds (and possibly centre). To the extent that I'm in the process of buying speakers which colour match with the sub, which fortunately colour matches with the wood in the room.

I personally prefer to have a nice looking AV setup. The sound is important but that goes hand in hand with the budget one has.

I got a black BK Gemini in high gloss because it matches my AV living room, sounds good and was within my budget.

If the sub is hidden then i suppose colour/finish isnt important but like i said, i prefer y gear to match and look good as a whole. It creates the illusion that its all a set.

I just like things to look nice :) aswell as sound nice

I would be happy to drop a little in quality if it got me a little more loving because of the colour :D

All black speakers with black grills and black electronics in a black rack and black subwoofer drivers and black zappers and black screen and black vinyl and a bunch of all black cables snaking across the floor all add up to tastefully understated set-up IMHO. ;)

I don't see why they should be mutually exclusive

Everything matching and good sound quality for me thank you!

I suppose it depends how much pride you take in your home. It is home cinema after all.
