I shall be purchasing my very first ipad this year. When the third edition is released. :D

I was just wondering how many of you actually use the smart covers? In my opinion they do not seem much good. I like a case that protects the back of the device.

I'm thinking the zip sleeve cases are the best.

I purchased a smart cover with my iPad2 on release day - and i have to admit now it was a very bad choice. I have now subsequently swapped it for a full surround leather case as the rear of the current iPad marks really easily.

For the price of an apple smart cover - you can get a far better full case from a 3rd party.

    I like my smart cover.

When I am travelling around I slip the iPad into a netbook neoprene sleeve but for home use I keep just the smart cover on and sit it on my compass stand when not in use.

I like my smart cover. I put a bestskinever on the back, and use a basic leather Belkin pouch for transporting with. In my opinion best combination.

That's pretty much the same as me. Why spend £x on something only to cover it in a crappy looking case? Mine has been naked for most of the time I have owned it and has no obvious markings on the back, it seems pretty scratch resistant.

I use a black leather smart cover with an Incipio feather on the rear. Works perfectly for me.

I bought a smart cover with my iPad 2 but very soon sold it on ebay as I did not like it at all. I have two iPad 2's and one is in a Snugg case (£35 ?) and the other in a similar Tecknet case (£12). I much prefer this type of case, particularly because of the magnetic switch which switches the iPad on when you open the lid. I will be buying something similar for the iPad 3 when I get it.

I think the smart covers are a novelty and wouldn't have one (although I have an iPad 1, but I'll be getting a new iPad when they release the next model).

Mine is minty mint as it was replaced by Apple under warranty and it went straight into an Otterbox Defender with a Phonedevil screen protector, to keep it that way. :smashin:

I don't think the smart covers are very practical at all. They are expensive for what they are and offer you no back protection requiring really another case on the back.

So I have one of these in black for iPad > cases for iPad > skinny for iPad 2 > STM Bags
When you first get them they feel really flimsy and not reassuring, but once fitted, these cases are excellent. They have a furry, suede like material on the inside cover which gives the screen a bit of padding when closed. They also work with the standby magnet when you open the case the ipad comes on.

Think most of all though, the best thing is that they are really skinny and barely add any weight or much thickness to the case at all.

There's zero protection on 3 sides of that case though. It's exposed bar the corners and a real problem if you drop it even with it closed!

I know, because had a Griffin leather case on iPad 1 and my Son dropped it twice and slightly marked it on 2 sides now as a result of only being held in by the corners. Screen and Back obviously protected but sides...

I use a smart cover, as i like to be naked too. Mostly its its usefulness as a stand and keeps the front screen a bit less dirty. It goes into a neoprene slip before going into my bag, or a more serious case if travelling.

Very good at just being minimalist about the home/work though.

Exactly the same here. Looks the mutt's and keeps things minimal.

Love my smart cover, was disappointed at first when i realised i had no protection on the back but i leave my Wallee case on it all the time now for wall mounting so not a problem as it has the cutout for the smart cover. Like the fact the magnets wake/unlock the ipad when you open it and works quite well as a stand. That said i'm sure some of the cheaper alternatives work just as well, its the concept more than the product i probably like more.

I've just got a Smart cover to go with my Switcheasy Coverbuddy. I love how sleek the ipad looks with them both on (grey) but for functionality i prefer a folio type of case. I find the two angles the Smart cover has are not enough, and the viewing one is too steep for me.
Im going to use the SC/Coverbuddy to show off the ipad 2 when i take it out but for other times ill stick to the folio case.
I do like how i can just pull the cover off though, i dont really need it on at home but then the ipad has to sit flat.
I guess nothing is perfect in this world.

That was my first one but i sent it back because of the turning off issue. I seemed to turn it off every time i piked it up when the cover was folded back. I replaced it with a Yoobao one thats much nicer (thinner with less bulk) but i do miss the different angles the SD one had.

Yes I use the smart cover and this STM bag for transport and at the end of the day.

for tablets > bags for iPad > jacket iPad > STM Bags

I like the handle on the case as v easy to carry. Only snag is if you unwittingly haven't zipped up at least the 1st corner and you hold it by the handle , the iPad could fall out ! Really a stupid design flaw.

You can take the iPad out without unzipping that corner so as long as you do that it still won't fall out when held by the handle.

had the macally bookstand for my ipad 1 which I really liked, other than it being fairly poorly made. Whats the closest equivalent for the ipad 2 (or 3)?

I liked how it gripped the sides of the ipad without overlapping too much on the bezel, and it was nice and slim

TBH I'd prefer a naked back but we have a glass coffee table so might be looking at a thin silicone cover to protect the table as much as the ipad

Snap - love this combination, offers full protection without adding much bulk at all.

I just wish Switcheasy would hurry up and at least announce a Coverbuddy for the iPad3 - dunno what I'm going to do until they do :(

The beauty in their design is that they snap on and off easily.

You're meant to snap them off when holding your iPad and then snap them on if you need them to act as a stand, or when you're done using your iPad and want to protect the screen. I've never seen any promotional footage of someone using an iPad with a smart cover hanging off it.

I wouldn't bother with a case but the back would scratch very easily.
