    Hi

I'm looking for an in-car "On Digital" Freeview box.

The cheapest unit I can find is via Ebay, but there seems to be only one guy selling them and I can't find the model he his selling anyway else in the UK, so I'm slightly hesitant to purchase one even though he sells them quite cheap.

The unit I am considering purchasing is Soundlinx, available here:

    http://www.marine-audio.com/Products/LCD-TV's,-Tuners-and-Brackets/Digital-12-Volt-''''UK-Freeview''''-TV-tuner|86.htm

Does anyone own an in-car freeview box?
    Are they simple to install?
Can I attach any 7"/8" Tv?
    Is the reception good?

    Cheers
    Chris

Not sure that this would work. For a start not all areas in the uk can get freeview, and if you are constant;y on the move and want to view a picture, wont you have to constantly retune your box and TV?
It even sasys in the add to mack sure that you can get freeview in your area, so I dont think they are expecting you to travel to far with it :)

Cheers for the reply - I know that some say you can travel at upto 70mph with no loss of reception.

Chris as I said in the sun visor thread in my area the signal is weak and I only get a picture while stationary, but here are a few answers for you.

They are very easy to install and come with a ciggy lighter plug an also a cable to hard wire to a power source.

Mine supplys a picture to 3 X 7" monitors and its a good quality image.

The remote extender reaches from the boot of my estate to the dash with cable to spare.

My picture breaks while moving but this is due to weak reception.

I would go for the Ebay version, a lot cheaper and not such a loss if the reception in your area is poor.

Many thanks for the replies. I don't think you can argue at £99. I know the model at £350 says its "DVD" quality but I suppose you get what you pay for.

    Hi

I'm very close to purchasing the screen and freeview box.
I've just had a quote of £200 + parts for fitting a DVD, Screen and Freeview box.

The "parts" is the DAB aerial which I need - he is estimating around £80.

Therefore my question is where can I find a TV DAB aerial on ebay etc.

I would have thought I should be able to pick one up for around £40 - but where?

    Cheers
    Chris

Well well well.....guess what I've just bought only a couple of hours ago after many, many hours searching for one......a CAR FREEVIEW DVB-T AERIAL AMPLIFIER BOOSTER.

I believe there is only one guy selling these on ebay - I've looked everywhere for one too.

    Here's the link:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5806166132&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:UK:11

I've just purchased a DVD player from Ebay too.

I hope the links help someone out.

    Cheers

I'm looking into getting an Alpine satnav system with a touch-sensitive screen. Does anyone know if any of these Freeview receivers can be controlled via the Alpine touch sensitive screen, or would you have to use the remote that comes with the Freeview receiver?

Also, do these receivers work with in-screen antenna's, or do you have to use a special antenna?

I've been told you must have a DVB-T AERIAL. I'm going with the one supplied with the unit + a booster amplifier.
I have been told Bosch have a good quality aerial for around £80 ish

Hmm... don't really fancy drilling a hole in my car's bodywork for an aerial.

What do the dedicated ones look like?

Chrisjoanne, I've just fitted the Bosch and the reception is much better, still drops out in my area but I can now get 25+ T.V channels and 20+ Radio, please let us know how good the booster is.

Marcus I have the Alpine touch Screen and you have to use the supplied remote, Alpine have just released a DVB T box but as yet I have no details. You do have to have an external aerial.

Just had mine delivered. Fitted it to my pioneer screen and it doesnt really work ....

I find over 15+ channels etc but the picture is always frozen. You sometimes get a snippet of sound but thats it.Tried moving the aerial around but makes no difference

Anyone suggest a booster or different aerial (dont want to drill the car as its only 3 months old - mag mount or glass mount)

    Thanks in advance

    UPDATE:

I have now installed my DVD player along with a nice 9" monitor and the good old Freeview box.

I installed the system myself (saved around £200) and double/trebled checked everything....however I too can not get this bloody Freeview box to work.

It has an extremely good picture quality when I am stationary but thats it.

I have even purchased the Amp (for £20) - this does improve the signal strength but as soon as I get to about 5mph ....no more picture, just lots and lots of blocks/pixels breaking up.

I have also purchased a Bosch aerial for £69 - with no improvements at all.

    Is the box to blame?

Are the Freeview boxes available on Ebay totally crap?

If anyone has managed to get this box working while moving PLEASE post on here.

I have travelled all over the Newcastle area and can not find ANYWHERE where this box will pick up a good signal.

    Any helpers out there?

    Cheers
    Chris

Mine does work if your stationary and the booster(from maplin £9.99) does help a little.

It doesnt work if your moving and the aerial supplied makes a whistling noise over 30mph!!

So its ok if you dont mind only seeing the picture when stationary...
