I have to connect to a large number of 2k/2003 servers via remote desktop using tsmmc.msc which sits in the system32 folder.

Is there a way to order the contents by server name?

(I can open the tsmmc.msc file in notepad and there is a load of xml in there which would take an age to sort).

click remote desktops below console root then click the "name" column heading in the right hand pane it will sort by server name or reverse sort with each click

That works for the right hand pane but still cannot sort the main left hand pane.. And it does not save in order!

nah I think the left hand pane is just the order the servers were added.

The only way I can think of other than editing the load of xml is to run remote desktop client instead of using the mmc snapin.

run remote desktop client enter the settings for the server then use "save as" and store the .rdp files in a folder. They should be stored and displayed just like any other file.

Yeah thats an idea but I have far too many servers to make a new list!

Thanks anyway. I may do this if I get 2 nanoseconds to spare :)

I found after a long search this freeware working fine as alternative to the tsmmc.msc. And the best, it comes with a sort function :)

    visionapp remote Desktop (vRD 1.4)

You may have to register to get the file.
