Does anyone know anything about the new Toshiba 42WP27

Jon - From here it looks the same spec as the Panasonic TH42PW5B?

The new Toshiba is a Panasonic TH-42PW5B clone - the switch to NEC screens seems to be happening next time around!

I'm awaiting a call back to confirm the warranty situation on the Toshiba - I can confirm it will be supplied with the RCA terminal board.

Best regards

Thanks for that

Do you know whether the Panasonic option accesories are compatable.

For example the SCART/Component card which was mentioned yesturday. And the desktop stand too.

Whils the Toshiba is a re-badged Panasonic, is it EXACTLY the same (i.e sofware too).

No - its got a Toshiba badge and the box has got Toshiba printed on it :)

If Toshiba/Panasonic have done the same as last time then everything will be identical and all accessories will be interchangeable.

Excellent news.. I had totally discounted the idea of getting a 42PW27, as I believed that it was an NEC.

As its the same as the Panasonic I can safely put it on my shopping list... Cheers

Heard from Toshiba today that they will be using Panasonic panels until February of next year, after which they will be switching over to NEC.

Nothing but an educated(ish) guess. Panasonic are obviously unable to meet demand for their own branded screens. If the contract is due to end in February then (and I repeat this is conjecture rather than known fact) either Panasonic want all the panels to themselves, or Toshiba need more panels that Pana can supply and so have gone elsewhere.

Sorry I can't be more definite than that but all we've actually been told is that Toshiba will be branding Panasonic panels until February and thereafter it will be NEC.

I believe Toshiba have signed a long term deal with NEC and also Sony to jointly invest in new plant and technology - cant remember all the details; its available in a press release on the NEC (Japan) web site.

As far as I can tell the next Toshiba will be based on the NEC MP3 - but February is a long way away in Corporate world these days so all may change in the interim.

Yes. The Panasonic is considered to be the best, and the Tosh a Panasonic with a different badge. NEC are still good, but difficult to interface with.

All the best,

John.
