Been looking at Pre Work Out Drinks like Jack3d (now banned in Britain) or Iron Pump or PHD's new VMX2
I'v been reading about most of these and found a common thing & that is most people seems to get used to the product ad thus have to up the dosages.
Anybody got anything positive or negative when it comes to Pre-Workout drinks ?

Use it once in a blue moon, when you have a big session of pb's planned. You'll get used to anything if you do the same thing every time.

I'm not really a fan of supplements so not used any pre-workouts on a regular basis. If I've had some free samples I'll give them a whirl but all they do for me is make my head go a bit light, never feel anything else.

Most people who use these do not train hard enough to justify a pre-work out drink, even if they pre-workout drink they buy does what it says. Keep it simple, train hard, eat well, rest well.

I've used jack3d before it was banned - well, I bought a tub of it...

3 scoops certainly worked for me..!

now...well, I have my own drink that I made that consist of various supplements, they being creatine, beta-alanine, taurine, aakg, and aspartic acid... again, this works for me...

yeah, it was mental stuff... I'd take 3 scoops before my friday classes (i.e. 5:30pm) - and I'd still be bouncing off the walls after 11pm whilst at the pub...!

edit - but then it's not really meant for CV workouts - and certainly not a marathon...that's just madness imo... more suitable for a heavy session at the gym...

infact the first time I took it - I was in a room with other people...then all of a sudden I wasn't able to make out a single conversation that was going on - as it all sounded a muddled mess...but I did have great workouts tho... :)

I've tried a few out, DSN's Craze, ON's PRE, Cellucor C4 and ON Amino Energy... The best one i found was PRE, this was purchased from the US so contained 200mg caffeine as opposed to the PRE sold over here with just 160mg...

I only really take it on a friday as i train with a friend who is a PT so i know it's going to be a harder session than usual. Gives me a good buzz and pump but as mentioned taking it too much means you just get used to taking it.

Be very careful with these drinks, lots of issues with them and for most people it is nothing more than an expensive piss.

Yeah i took the recommended 1 scoop with 760 ml / 25 foz of water (which is a lot of water) yet the american product only needs 5/6 foz ?
While the energy levels where not through the roof, i did get a great pump while working out.
Ive looked on the net and most people who use the EU version just do 500 ml of water.
i'm upping the dosage to 2 scoops as i'm a regular coffee drinker so i might have a high tolerance.
    Will see how this goes.
Only gonna use it when i know I've got a good session ahead as what has been said above i probably don't workout as hard as i should to warrant it all the time.
As with all pre workouts you should cycle on and off anyway so you don't build up a tolerance.

No I don't, I can't have anything with Taurine. It makes me feel like my heart is going to explode. If I feel the need for a boost I will have a Espresso 10 minutes before I hit the weights.

Hi Jean, pre work out drinks are great before a big leg or back day for motivation, pumps, mental focus, energy and recovery, a 6 week cycle is a rule of thumb as a person adapts between 4 to 8 weeks the same as they would on most training programs and specialist sport supplements, I would use it during heavy phases normally between 3 - 8 reps but come off it when doing 10 - 12 reps as it's the heavy sessions with squats and deadlifts motivation is normally required.

Musclpharm Assault, Mutant Mayhem and Nutrex Hemo Rage Black are probably the best on the market.

Well i did a #LegDay yesterday and i'm paying for it now !
This time i did x2 scoops in 500ml of water. The recommended 760ml (just around a pint and half) was too much before the gym. i think it was way too much to be honest. While the mental focus wasn't there (especially like when i read the reviews and hear the stuff that apparent happens) but i honestly felt like crap during the workout & after, i still feel the same now. Not sure if i'm coming down with a bug as there is one in the household or it was also a lack of food as well yesterday as i couldn't get anything down as i had other stuff on my mind as well.
When i took the one scoop, again the mental focus wasn't there but pumps defiantly where better.
I think i'm going to move onto a 5x5 workout at the moment. I was trying to loose weight as well as putting muscle on. Don't get me wrong i have noticed a change in the 6/7 months i've been at the gym but i'm struggling to do both. i've lost a bit of fat & replaced it with muscle so weight is kinda the same. The hard part is the gut which hasn't gone down (but maybe down to Candida).
I want to increase my strength a bit so gonna try 5x5 for a few months.

and the drink I make now - I have about 50ml..? couple of mouthfuls really...

5 x 5 reps is good for power and mass, do this for 6 - 8 weeks max as after this your body will adapt, use Musclepharm Assault and there creatine for maximum results, do 4 x 12 - 15reps for the same time period for fat loss and muscle tone, try using a quality whey isolate and Grenade Black Ops for faster fat loss during this period and cut out carbs in the evening and have fresh oily fish or poultry with fresh vegetables, this should help you reduce your body fat levels. For a more detailed plan find a recognised PT where you live, don't just find any PT as I wouldn't trust many of them.

    Hope this is of help.

    Spencer :)

At the risk of sounding like an advertisement, I've recently switched from Jack3d to BodyBuildingWarehouse Performance Prime.
It doesn't get you ludicrously wired like Jack3d but still gets you going and ready for a workout. I like it anyway.

Dont use them any more but Craze used to get me completely wired for both lifting and cardio.

I once went out for a 15 mile bike ride and didnt want to stop so rode 60 miles on it :)

I'm not surprised to find out its been banned though - "metamphetmaine-like substance" apparently

I agree with sniffer. Some of the "old blends" used to really give you a kick up the ass.
I believe initially they used ephedra (similar to ephedrine which is a substance a lot of athletes got done over for) and then they moved on dimethylamylamine (DMAA) which is a cousin of methamphetimine. So closely linked in fact that I took jack3d before competing in a Survival of the Fittest run and ended up hospitalised (long story) and in my preliminary blood tests while I was lying in the trauma centre showed an amphetamine substance in my blood.
It has since been banned and I don't know what they have replaced it with but you can't take them lightly.

Like I said before (and I am genuinely sorry about sounding like an advert) the BBW blend I use at the moment is much lighter. Only has caffeine and taurine in it as the stimulants.

Unless they contain 1.3Dimethyl (unlikely nowadays) , then about 90% of the kick is from caffeine. You can replicate the energy element for pennies.

The rest of the ingredients will do little for energy, and are more focused on increasing your pump and mental focus.

There's a very significant drop in effectiveness with consistent use as the body adjusts to the caffeine hit , at that point most people get little apart from a being a little wired.

Nothing wrong with taking a pre, adjust for tolerance, always start with 1/4 recommended dosage the first time and only take 1-2 a week max or they lose all usefulness.

Ill occasionally have some C4 or Supercharge on legs day, that's it.

Ephedrine is long gone from OTC pre's nowadays, although its still available "out there".

    BSN N.O. Explode 2.0
Well I'm not getting "Laser like focus" as the reviews state.
I have noticed my workouts border on 1.5 hours which normally I'm flagging past the hour.
The Pumps are the main thing I've noticed.
1st workouts give me that skin ripping feeling.
A feeling that lasts all session.
Once I've run out I'm gonna try something else.

I'm not it's just that I notice as I'm flagging/burned out that it's been 1.5hrs. (When taking BSN N.O. Explode)
I must say that's 1.5hrs at the gym not working out.
In the 1.5 hours I may be warming up, talking, resting, waiting for equipment (not got a large free weight area)
I'd probably say if spend 40-55 mins working out hard !
And before taking the pre workout it would be just over the hour so about 30-40 mins of workout time ????

yes, I also train for about 80 minutes or so - but then I'll either do a push (chest, shoulders, and triceps), or the pull routine (legs and back) and I doubt I coule do it in less time...tho, my leg workout lasts less than an hour...
