Does Ambilight really make a difference?

Hi all

I am finding in my old age (34!) that I am suffering more and more from eye strain watching TV in the evening on my current Tosh 32WLT58. I have had my eyes tested just last week and they are fine - 20/20 vision so its not that!

I have been reading about Philips Ambilight tvs and was wondering if any of you guys that have these screens find that ambilight helps in low light viewing and reduces eye strain and improves contrast?

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Can I assume, or not, that you are watching TV with other lights on in your room or are you, like some neighbours of mine, insistent upon watching their TV in a darkened room like people used to do in the last century when watching their feebly illuminated TV screens.

In my opinion, and for what it is worth, watching TV without lights 'on' around the TV will lead to eyestrain and should be avoided.
