I have money waiting for a product that i would assume to be the ultimate record machine - yet it doesn't seem to exist yet - am i correct?

I want an HDD and DVD+-R recorder (DVD-Ram doesn't matter) with a Digital TV (DVBt) tuner. Does one exists???

There are plenty of HDD DVD recorders on the market but none of them are DVB they are all analogue - why is this? :lesson:

    I basically need these features:
    • HDD at least 160gb
    • DVD recorder at least DVD+R compatable, preferably all formats (except DVD-RAM) [to copy recordings to DVD at high speed - not realtime]. Dual layer is not essential although preferable
    • DVBt Tuner (1 is fine)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me where i can get one and what it is called, i will take lots of pictures and dissect it for all to see!!!:thumbsup:

So they can sell you one with DVB a few years later.
    Built-in obsolesence.

I am guessing only a HTPC will do what you want at the moment.

There are several models coming in the next few weeks. The first will be the Panasonic EH60D. This will be followed in October by several Sony models: the RDR-XD710, 910 and 1010 models. All will be priced between £500 and £1000.

To see how user interfaces/features are going to compare you might like to checkout this comparison of the Sony GXD500 and Panasonic ES20D Freeview DVD Recorders.

My. You wait years for one to come along, and suddenly 4 arrive at once.

    I am stumped :)

Where can we get one for under 400 quid?

I was asking about if there was such a device a week ago in Tottenham Court Road.

I guess the sales staff there aren't really that clued up and/or are eager to shift their old stock.

Of course what I really want is a Blu-ray version :)

The EH60D is starting with a RRP of £499, which will be discounted to around £450 on internet retailers. I should imagine if you wait a few months it will be sub-£400.
