In the middle of the football? Bit cringey that & less analysis on Fellaini's elbows!

It'a bit odd. It should help their ratings at half time though.

Yep dull and boring playing from both teams. Typical football then.

Ah I've have heard of that. Some big musical event with a bare breast on occasion. If we have that tomorrow let's hope it's not Capaldi.

Joking aside how long is the Superball break? Do they have a really long one for loads of ads and the music. I'm not up on football but even I know there's only a fifteen minute break when they change sides. I'd imagine a lot of footie fans will object to the Who interruption. I'd be peed off by a footie break during Who.

It's not Rakhee Thakrar, but whoever she is (Pearl Mackie as "Bill", apparantly), she was bloody annoying throughout, not a good sign

    Now confirmed as Pearl Mackie

Mackie, who graduated from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2010, is currently performing in the National Theatre's West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.

She certainly wasn't great in that but hopefully she'll work better in a proper episode. She doesn't seem to have much screen experience though which is more worrying.

Speaking about her first major television role, Mackie said: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Doctor Who family. It’s such an extraordinary British institution, I couldn’t be prouder to call the TARDIS my home! Peter Capaldi is such a brilliant actor, and his Doctor is such a wacky and wonderful character, I can’t wait to see what adventures are in store for him and Bill throughout time and space. Reading the script at the audition I thought Bill was wicked. Fantastically written, cool, strong, sharp, a little bit vulnerable with a bit of geekiness thrown in – I can’t wait to bring her to life, and to see how she develops through the series.”

Announced in a two minute video “Friend From The Future” during half-time of tonight’s Match of the Day on BBC One, Mackie’s Bill was debuted to the world alongside the rebel Time Lord as they escaped from a Dalek. “Shooting the trailer was absolutely mental,” Mackie said, “there were pyro technics and smoke and I met my first Dalek! I’m not sure it will ever become ‘the norm’ seeing crazy monsters on set, but I cannot wait to meet some more! The weirder the better, bring it on!”

It seems the current cast and crew are pleased with the choice of Mackie as well. Of his new co-star, Peter Capaldi said: “It is a genuine delight to welcome Pearl Mackie to Doctor Who. A fine, fine actress with a wonderful zest and charm, she’s a refreshing addition to the TARDIS and will bring a universe of exciting new possibilities to The Doctor’s adventures.”

Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer adds: “A new face in the TARDIS, a new voyage about to begin: welcome aboard the amazing Pearl Mackie! This is where the story really starts.”

Charlotte Moore, Acting Director of Television said: “It’s so exciting to be revealing the much anticipated new companion to the nation in such spectacular style. Pearl brings a wonderful energy and lights up the screen. She will captivate Doctor Who fans old and new across the globe.”

Brian Minchin, Executive Producer adds: “We’re utterly thrilled to have the hugely talented Pearl join Doctor Who and I can’t wait to begin her new adventures in time and space!”

Yep after the initial shock, I'm hopeful she'll be better than that Mel Bush-Ace hybrid, and her theatrical training and experience sound good.

That press statement is still the usual crap, I dread to think that some press office monkey came up with her quote, using wacky, wicked and mental to make it sound young and 'urban'.

Could be one to knock the Doctor out of his comfort zone.

Her one bit of tv was Doctors. I watched that when Sylvester McCoy was the guest star. He played a retired actor who'd played a time traveling alien. They even put in some of his dialogue from Rememberance Of The Daleks. I've since found out that the show often references Dr Who And Battlestar Galactica.

It was announced on Saturday that actress Pearl Mackie will join Peter Capaldi in the next series of Doctor Who, due to be screened in 2017.

The actress made her debut wearing a Prince T-Shirt, which many fans took to be a tribute to the artist who died last week. However Doctor Who brand manager, Edward Russell, confirmed that the sequence was filmed over a week ago and the costumn was just a weird coincidence.
