carrying on from Gary D's thread about slippers inside. do you wear trainers/shoes that you wear outside inside your home?

from a young age my mum always got me to take them off in the porch and wouldnt let us wear them inside the house.

i guess it prevents kids stepping on dog mess outside and spoling the carpets inside, all though i am very much an adult now ( i hope i am) i am so used to it that i never wear the shoes i wear outside inside, mentally i feel the house is cleaner and as we have cream carpets prevents them staining.

    what about you guys?

Why wear shoes when relaxing indoors?

I like my feet to breathe a bit, and my shoes not to stink or be damp from a full day's foot sweat - so socks or bare feet (if warm enough) for me, don't bother with slippers as floors and carpets sufficiently clean from hoovering and others taking their shoes off too.

No wonder so many have fungal foot infections, athlete's foot, smelly feet, shoes and trainers etc

Lets just think about it, you have spent up wards of £2000 on floors in your house? Hmm lets walk all over them with grit and dirt from outside shall we. I think not.

as you can guess i wear slippers. :D (the thought of all those dirty feet has had me on the phone to my therapist all night :D )

no i never shoes/trainers/boots inside the house. my old my man instilled it into us as kids - some things are for outside and some for inside - simple really.

but some you have me really worried

No mate, floors are for walking on, and houses for living in and somewhere to call home.

They're not meant to look 100% clean/tidy all the time.

Sometimes I have shoes on and sometimes I don't- depends on the time of day. As Mr D says- its a floor so I can't get too wrapped up in "protecting" it.

How many of you Hobbits have kids ?
I'm betting not many. You stop worrying about things such as the cleanliness of your floors. Just being able to see them sometimes is good enough.

I don't have kids, and still can't see the floors sometimes!! Just not enough hours in the day to complete everything.

Plus, our 2 cats seem to make enough mess for 4 kids!!

Hobbits don't need footwear as they've got hardwearing hairy elongated feet :D

Not a parent myself, but mates with kids do tend to apply the no shoes indoors rule due to that dog mess bug that can cause blindness

Anyway a bit of dirt isn't bad; too much antiseptic / antibacterial / antibiotic use has resulted in the rise of superbugs.

It's not flithy, but not sparkling! I'll only hoover once a week, wash the kitchen floor once a week, dust every 2 weeks.

And making it dirty is part of living in a house! just like wearing clothes makes them dirty!

I've got doormats at every entrance and scrapers outside the frontdoor, garage door and patio doors.

    I wipe my feet.

If the shoes/boots are muddy then I take them off.

The number of people I know who walk around indoors with no shoes is amazing all of them have laminate/wood floors and you can see where they walk.

I think feet are disgusting anyway, but bare sweaty feet, yuk.

I have a friend who always wears sandels in his house and i thought it was really wierd but i guess hes not alone. If you live in a student house you quickly learn to wear shoes or you'd probably lose your feet.
