Do you use your TV's speakers?

I recently bought a new 5.1 setup and oh my god they have changed my life and how i view home AV.

I then bought a new 902b 65 incher in a different home and playing it via TV speakers again is... welll i can acclimatise to it after a couple of minutes. i dont enjoy it but i can live with it.

Do many/any people here use the TV speakers or does everyone have an AVR + speaker setup?

I personally can't see the logic in spending 1-2k on a screen but not spending at least as much on speakers+avr+subwoofer. Personally I'd easily rather spend 500-1k on a screen and 2k on audio given AVR/Audio/Subwoofer enchance the cinematic experience x1000, they double as improving music x1000 and they hold their value compared to our TVs which just plummet.

fudge no! My KS7000 is a superb television - for picture quality. The sound is utterly pathetic. Everything goes through my (old) 5.1 setup.

i just can't imagine someone not going 3.1 or 5.1 given the quality and experience and immersion gain is HUUUUUUGE

I think the sound on the 902b is good (for a TV), I use it for general watching eg. normal TV, which is not really worth using the amp etc. for. if I want to watch a film or netflix or sport etc. I will definitely use the speakers / subwoofer, which are obviously a lot better sound than the TV.

The sound on our LG 49" UF770V is not terrible, but it's not good enough for me so we got a LG 320W soundbar/wireless sub about 1.5 years ago and since then every time we go to someone's house and they don't have a soundbar/separate av setup it sounds horrendous! The soundbar and sub adds alot of bass you don't get from the tv speakers and the sound actually projects towards you(how it should) rather than the downward firing built in tv speakers. The best £170 I've ever spent!

My GT60 plasma sound is very good (once tweaked to my preferences). For normal TV show viewing swmbo prefers it over the 5.1 system.

But for decent film/tv 5.1 surround programmes and most quality music shows the surround is much more immersive and detailed.

So it's programme content that dictates what we listen via.

Never.

You can get a basic stereo or powered speakers and use them until you get an AV amp. Even the most basic stereo or powered speakers will be better than the tiny things in a TV.

No, got an A/V amp when I discovered the speakers on my B7020 were useless with any sort of bass. The speakers on my current telly are a bit better, but I still wouldn't use them in preference to the A/V system

Afraid I had to sell my Monitor Audios, and only left with the TV speakers.
Mind you they are very good as far as TV speakers go;)

I'm going to add to what everyone else has said - I nearly always use the AVRs plus speakers in my various rooms, though occasionally if I'm not going to be listening to a TV programme for more than about 10 minutes I will use the TVs' speakers, but not often. In truth my various TVs' internal speakers are not too bad, and I could live with only them, but a digital optical output lead into the AVRs and then out through proper loudspeakers is much better.

I wonder if anyone who does mainly use the TV's own speakers will contribute to this thread???

Normal TV show viewing I still can't stand TV speakers. Even switching the 5:1 to stereo for less immersion ?
