Do you need a very dark room

As the title say's, do you need a very dark room to enjoy, also, can you hang a screen in front of a window? I was thinking of either fixing one or useing hooks in the ceiling...
Just a thought as i was sat in my living room, day dreaming sort of, i thought to myself, if only the window was a tv... then i thought of projectors.

You generaly need a darkened room, draw the curtains and roll down the screen in front of your window, job done.
