Do you need a optical ouput on a tv For surround sound

    Unless it has built in Hidef from Freeview or Freesat it will not pick up surround sound because it is not broadcast. Though suround sound can be derived from 2 channel stereo eg prologic2. For this you could take nomal sound (analog or digital) to appropriate decoder.

    Whats your proposed system? What will you be looking to get surround sound from? Will it be the TV only or from other sources like Sky etc.
