    Hi,

My sky picture breaks up for a split second every few minutes, especially on UKTV channels, but on some other channels sometimes too.

Not all the picture breaks up just part of it, which is accompanied with a high pitched sound.

What could be causing this? I have called Sky twice and they have taken me through a few "basic proceedures" by the problem still occurs.

    You help would be appreciated.

    J.

Most probably a faulty LNB or slightly misaligned dish or the tuner failing within the STB. Other factors although rarer can be the cable and digital portable phones placed near to the STB.

Have the break-ups coincided with poor weather in your locality? Supposedly only extreme conditions should cause break-up, but reading around here in relation to problems I'm having, it would seem that bad weather, sub-optimal installation and/or faulty LNB or box could be behind the symptoms you're seeing

I have the same problem on UKTV channels only. I have also noticed that when the 'breakup' occurs, the sound can loose sync with the vision.

LNB is the low noise block (the bit at the end of your dish arm). STB is the set top box (AKA the Sky digibox).
The first thing to try is a force update. If this doesn't work then buy a new LNB and replace with the old one. Or better still try someone else's STB on your dish and see if the same fault occurs to know for sure or take your STB to another dish and try.

    Cheers, Franc
