what would you say are your DVD habits, strange ones especially?

I have a few of my own, like:

I like to leave new dvds in their shrink wrap if i'm not planning on watching them right away, because when i come to watch them, it's like getting something new all over again

I also pull forward any dvds i mean to watch in the near future so that they stick out further on the shelf than any others, though it never seems to make me watch them any quicker..

If a DVD has a trailer for the movie on it, i always watch the trailer before watching the movie, which i realise is ever so slightly daft as it quite often spoils all the good bits of the movie.

I alphabetise my collection, which is actually quite a pain since they are situated in 2 bookcases, comprising 14 shelves, so when i get a new dvd, i normally have to rearrange all the shelves. :suicide:

Alphabetical order and kept in their cases. Somehow my girlfriend finds this arrangement impossible to conform to.

I wouldnt really say any are strange. Bu I do this everytime I buy a dvd

With boxsets I leave the shrink rap on, then use a knife carefully cut round the part to make space to get them out. To preserve the packageing as much as possible.

I try to catergorise them by genre, but it doesnt seem to work.

Open up dvd profiler and add them, but swear curse and shout at the pc for at least 5 minutes if it doesnt have a profile for one.

Put them in appropriate box order (amaray case/boxset/etc....)

Well thats a few things anyway

i know your pain.. i suppose if they're not on there, we're supposed to add them ourselves, but since that's the case, i'm happy i'm not paying for it!!

Can’t be hassled with alphabetical orders and the others – the only one I do is keep them in shrink wrapping until I watch them. It’s always satisfying ripping it off just before I watch a movie!

My strangest habit is trying to spend more time watching DVDs than the time I spend on the DVDSoon website trying to order them...PJ :)

I add all new films (including new double-dippers) to an unwatched 'pile'.....once watched I try and store them by genre.....doing this is interesting as some films are difficult to pigeonhole but can help with transitioning from one genre to another :)

I always remove the packaging and add the film to DVDProfiler as soon as I have the disc in my livingroom.....being a big region 1 fan I find getting the shrinkwrap and security labels off at this stage is marginally less annoying then trying to get it all off just as I want to watch the film....

Put 'em into DVDProfiler and then put them on my shelf in more or less chronlogical(date of purchase) order, unless they're a tv series or R1/R3, horizontally so that the spine with the title on it can only be read from above, then when they've been watched they're stood up right.

Yep, forgot about that. Whether or not they're in their plastic wrapping I always stick them on DVD Profiler as soon as I get them.

That piece of software is a god-send for me. I spend more time looking at that and ordering dvd's than watching the movies themselves!

    You odd lot, but.

DVD's in alphabetical order, yes but in a metal 400 dj case (nowhere near full yet but I live in hope) (exception boxsets) they have to be or I would never find the one I want (I sling the various types of box because I got fed up with the difficulty of getting the bloody things open/out)

    Wrapping off when I get round to seeing them, and;

Why do so many people have unwatched DVD's as mentioned on this site time and time again. I too have got about 30 that I've just left, theres no logic to it either as I've watched a couple from last week yet still have the Indi jones trilogy and BTTFuture trilogy from years ago still wrapped! and I have had the time to watch them if I had wanted to.

Catalog them, no. I started that with my vinyl and then CD's and it's become an obsession and I vowed never to start it with DVD's.

I put all my new purchases into Dvdprofiler asap! Apart from that the only habit I have that I've really got to stop doing, is searching DVD sites for the word 'limited' on a regular basis just to see if I'm missing out on any cool new box sets!! It's costing me a fortune......

I don't put my DVD's in alphabetical order because I'm too lazy!! But my girlfriend has developed the very nasty habit of taking my DVD's out of the player and putting them ON TOP of the case!! I mean WHY?!? It's not too much more effort to pick up the case, open it and put the disc back in so it's protected! But she will stop this..........mark my words, she will stop...........
