So on question time a gentleman expressed his view which got the applause of the audience

Scot speaks the truth on question time

I for one have to say he has a valid argument and makes a strong point.

Just the usual confused rant, not too dissimilar to what can be seen from the usual posters on here. Just blame everyone else including thatcher. Quite sad actually.

Clearly you don't, seeing as he "got the applause of the audience"

Back to your old habits then Gareth?
    Are two sentences a rant?

    ;)

This reminds me of the "how many cows are required for a stampede?" conversation at the start of Tremors... How many sentences are required for a rant? Is there a minimum number? Surely a true rant doesn't follow strict grammatical sentence structure, so could one poorly constructed sentence constitute a rant?

    :D

I do believe the OP deserves them, as I've rated many of his recent soliloquies‎

He has a point that these problems do exist and government is doing little to rectify them.

Some of these problems exist, some are fictitious.

Some can only be resolved in ways that would be very unappealing to the majority.

    There are no free fixes.

There is. Its the magic money tree. ;/) I realised the other day that most of the posters arguing for more involvement are actually wanting the full communist manifesto.

    1. Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
    2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
    3. Abolition of all right of inheritance.
    4. Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
    5. Centralisation of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
    6. Centralisation of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
    7. Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
    8. Equal liability of all to labour. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
    9. Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equitable distribution of the population over the country.
    10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labour in its present form and combination of education with industrial production.[15]

The ones I would fix are eating up tax payers money on paying housing benefits that artificially inflate rent costs. Spend that money on building new housing stock or council houses.
Simplify and rigorously apply corporate tax laws such that those bigger and more powerful pay what is due and do not create unfair competitive environments for those smaller, national companies that do pay their taxes in full.

As has been discussed on numerous occasions - the bigger companies pay exactly what is due. And if you want them to pay more then that will increase the prices of goods and services.

Further, it is basic EU legislation - free movement of goods and services within the EU etc - but you are in favour of the EU....

And if they didn't I don't think you would find a single person here defending them (unless they are completely against government and taxes in general :))
