    Looking at refurbished 40" - 42" LED LCD TVs like the Sony KDL40R483 & Samsung UE40H5000 and from reading posts here seems Samsungs are better however here is my question.

    I'm not interested in 3D and as I'll be getting a Smart Blu ray with wifi etc then surely the TV doesn't need to be Smart etc so are there any good screens that don't have all the extraneous unneeded stuff but have higher picture quality for around the £250 mark?
    Cheers

    Your right in that only one of the items needs a smart interface.

    But screens without a smart interface and higher picture quality are more expensive not less!

    Its all to do with how a semiconductor manufacturing line works.
    A line costs a certain amount to set up.
    How much each unit costs to make depends on how many units you send through the line, so the more units a line sells the cheaper they can be.

    At the moment the cheapest units are 1080p smart TV,s.

    There are lines producing high quality display screens only, usually called pro panels, but these tend to sell to professionals and connoisseurs only, therefore they dont sell nearly as much, so the cost is higher,way higher!
    Panels with minimum add ons and excellent picture quality typically start at 10 K and up!

    Thanks for the reply but wouldn't I be better going for an older second hand plasma screen without all the extra features that will be on a Blu Ray player anyway.

    If so what would you people out there in the know recommend as a good second hand older plasma screen around the £250 mark.

    Otherwise which of these;

    Sony Kdl40R483 £230 Tesco refurbished 12 month warranty.

    Samsung UE40EH5000 £250 refurbished 12 month warranty.

    Panasonic TX-42A400B £220 Tesco refurbished 12 month warranty.

    Sony KDL42W653 £280 Argos 6 month warranty.

    Many thanks
