....well, I didn't think so either, but I've just received Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistlestop Cafe (I know, sorry!) and it arrived without any shrink wrap/covering over the case.
Does this mean it was "used" or do some DVDs come with shrink wrap? (I've certainly never had one before)

Some do, some don't, in my experience.
You could have bought Fired Green Tomatoes as part of a cheery triple pack like I did for my sister. My brother in law is well chuffed, NOT!:D Are there any marks or scratches on the disk?

I bought a Buffy series one from Play a while back and it had a price sticker for ASDA on the cover.... I kid you not.

I'm sure they re-sell the ones that come back as faulty, I've had several (always at "sale" prices) that had obviously been used long before I got hold of them, but as they worked fine I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of sending it back for an exchange.
It's nothing new, you can always buy returned goods for less at places like Argos under the "managers special" banner.

I certainly wouldn't accept it at full price though

No scratches on FGTATWSC (well you do it for Lord of the rings!) but haven't played it yet as it's a present for my Sister (and, yes, I do like her!).

    Merry Crimbo...

In my experience they do. I've received two DVDs which have been opened and very badly treated (scratched to the point they wouldn't play) and another which was unsealed and showed finger prints on the insert (no scratches on the disk).

I had to return two copies of Queen: Greatest (Video?) Hits 1 for this reason. Ended up not bothering in the end :(

I've had dvd (cases) broken and discs come loose/scratched in the post but they've always let me return them for either a refund or replacement.
