Just a quick question that's been bugging me recently:

If I feed my Panny PW6 with an interlaced signal, is it automatically deinterlaced by the screen before being displayed? Or is the interlaced signal displayed as it is?

If the screen converts an interlaced signal to progressive, then does that mean a prog scan DVD player is unnecessary?

Yes the PWD6 has a built-in deinterlacer and scaler as the plasma is inherently progressive.

If you then feed it a progressive signal you are essentially by-passing the built-in deinterlacer...if you feed it a signal in it's native resolution from an external scaler then you can also by-pass the built-in scaler as well.

Depending on the source this can provide a better image, which can be much better or could even be worse...it all comes down to which does the better job.

    Cheers, Lee

    Thanks for confirming that.

So does that mean that if I set my DVD player to use prog scan, then it won't necessarily improve the picture?? I guess it would all depend on whether the screen or DVD player has the better deinterlacer....
